Most of you put way too much stock in recruiting rankings

Remember when we had top 5 recruiting classes and finished the season not ranked in the top 25 under Miles? The inability to sign an absolute stud at QB has been the biggest problem for our program. Mettenberger brought life back into the program and we have had nothing since.

Place and time, man. Today was bad. No matter how you slice it. And me saying that has nothing to do with rankings.

What was so bad? Losing a recruit to the national champion? I knew like other that Surtain was not coming here. We need a QB who can take over and win games.

That may be true in some conferences. Not the SEC. If you're thin in a certain position group it shows. We better fricking PRAY we don't have an injury at corner this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see them give Jacoby Stevens a look at corner. I mean we are paper thin. Could have had Goorich to soften the blow but Orgeron put a stop to that. The kid wanted to commit but we gotta wait for the long shot qb. frick.

If Les Miles class ranked #15 people would lose their minds

Sure it addresses needs in the trenches but that talent level isn't elite.

We add no QB's, only 1 DB

Not a horrible class but for LSU standards, it failed

That 2009 class which was ranked no 1 by ESPN formed the base for that 2011 team...so that's something.

People are as pissed about the depth/talent issues at CB and rightfully so. The rankings reflect the hole in this class.

Do you realize that 2019 will be much better with the in state talent? The CB position will not be a problem. Games are won in the trenches and solid QB play. How many games we won single handily because of a CB? None

In 2016 LSU finished #2 in recruiting. So 2018 will be the year then.

These are just a couple of the notable games of fmy heads where the game was swung or dominated because of the CB's of LSU
LSU-Texas A&M 2010 Cotton Bowl
LSU North Carolina (Peterson, Badger)
LSU Miss St (Peterson)
LSU-West Virginia 2010 (Peterson) LSU West Virginia 2011 Badger
LSU-Arkansas 2011 Badger
LSU-Georgia SEC Championship Game Badger
LSU Bama 2011 Ed Reid, Claiborne
LSU Louisville 2016 Jamal Adams

Football is a team sport. That said, I've seen CBs make numerous game saving plays. Also seen them make game losing plays (see playoffs Vikings v. Saints).

I realize that Louisiana is loaded in 2019. I also realize that Coach O may be on the hot seat or worse after next season (schedule is a beast, 7-8 wins is a legit possibility). So, I guess I'm just not convinced we will have a great class next year.

My real issue with this class is after all the talk about Les Miles having great classes but leaving big holes each year, Coach O does the same damn thing (and it was unforced).

Who the hell gave you that little tidbit? LSU hasn’t even sniffed #2 in recruiting in almost a decade!!! Give me Bamas #1 classes for the past 6 years and I can coach a team to the play-offs!!! It’s all about recruiting!

You sort of answered your own question.

Losing a recruit to the national champion

Yeah one that we play every year. To make matters worse it was at a position of need. A position where we signed 0 players this year. It's a pretty big loss.

I knew like other that Surtain was not coming here.

Perhaps it should disturb you that you had more insight on this matter than our staff?

We didn't sign one of those either. The rankings aren't what matter. Complete goose eggs on 2 positions of need will hurt this program.

Single handily? I think not. You must of forgot about the contribution from the rest of the team.

But to act as if they aren't important is stupid.

One thing defensive backs can definitely do for you is lose games. If our #2 corner is weak then it's pitch and catch all day for any QB worth a damn. One thing you definitely don't want on defense is a glaring weakness in your secondary. Especially at corner.

take this into account also. Dantrieze Scott is our lowest ranked player and the 799th ranked player in the country. Do you really feel they got that right? Would you want him out this class? Really it's more about the players we didn't get: 2 out of Surtain, Goodrich, or Foster than what we did land. So missing on two players, granted, two good ones, is making this place blow up.

So we have elite CBS and still lost to Bama. What's your point? Better QB play and they don't beat us 7 straight. How in the hell these 2 guys will beat Bama? We couldn't beat them with all American CBs.

I said those were games where the CB's "dominated or swung the game". But yea Honeybadger pretty much "single handedly" beat Arkansas and Georgia in 2011. Dude was amazing.
