He is doing the same thing that got him fired at Ole Miss. When and if this program goes down in flames, he is making it impossible to say it wasn't his doing.

Question: "Coach, rankings dont mean everything, but this is LSUs lowest ranked class since 2005, what do you need to do to get back?"

Answer:
"Lets see what happens with this class"
"Some OL/DL in this class that are very good"

"I trust my rankings, I chose this class. I trust my ability to evaluate and develop better than anyone else. I'm not going to trust any one else's evaluation."

^^ That was verbatim what he said, with bold to emphasize what he emphasized.

That's the equivalent of when some pumper is on here spouting off "I ain't buyin' into da recrootin' rankins from dese places, they ain't know a players heart!" Except it's not some random message board poster, it's the head coach.

Well there we have it. The gauntlet has been thrown down. Someone bookmark this please. I hope he's right. But if he's not, there's nowhere to run from that quote.

Couple this with the fact that he said he was "disappointed in the misses today" as well as "we purposely saved those scholarships in case we need them- it was the plan all along" and my faith in him is long goneeee.

Weird how coaches like Nick Saban, Dabo, Smart, and Urban generally use these evaluations and sign top classes.

Guess those guys are just idiots

so you'd rather the guys at Rivals pick which targets LSU recruits? I'm confused as to why the quote is a bad thing. Like it or not, O is the coach. He needs to sink or swim with his guys.

What I find troubling is he contradicts the above quote later on when asked what he'd do different. He stated he would be more selective in the early signing period. He's all but admitting there are guys he probably wouldn't move on with an offer if he had to do it all over again.

So is it an underrated class by the services or are there guys in the class who aren't up to "LSU standards"? You said both, O.

So he shouldn't take responsibility for his actions? This doesn't look like an elite recruiting class like we're used to and today sucked but at least he owns up to what he's done

I mean, that really isn't a bad quote. You do not want your head coach to make decisions based on any third-party recruiting rankings.

The problem isn't even with O's "rankings" (though I certainly wouldn't be shocked if his personal evaluation skills are not that truly top tier), the problem is that he's lying and there are players that were higher in "his" rankings too but he could not get them.

If my head coach actually thinks, after scouting, that a consensus 3-star is better than a consensus 5-star, then that is ok. But its not like that's what we are talking about here.

Oh, he is making himself accountable and it will almost entirely be his doing when this ship runs fully aground.

It's not the worst answer in the world.
If you absolutely knew who the best players were regardless of their ranking on signing day and you got them your team would always be ranked outside of the top 10.

The problem is if O could see the future and tell how the recruits would turn out.. He probably would've used that ability against Notre Dame and gone for the touchdown.
