Long story- been on Clonazopam for 3 years for muscle spasm, anxiety, and anxiety attack’s. I don’t abuse it. But I’m nearly out as I moved around a month ago.
Since I’ve moved to the area I’ve tried to find an in network Psyciatrist to no avail. I mean 0 luck getting an appointment this next month.
What I’m asking is, can I go to a family doctor or primary care physiscian vs. waiting months for a physc doctor?

Your PCP should be able to write you an Rx to cover until you see your new Psychiatrist. PCP can possibly also help expedite an appointment.

Dr. Burl Forgey. I went to him from 1998-2001 for depression and he helped me a lot. Haven't had to see him since then, but he still has a practice.

A PCP may be hesitant to prescribe a benzo to someone they’ve never treated before. Maybe if you explain the situation and provide medical records from your old physician, they may be more inclined to renew your script.

My PCP prescribed me xanax for what he thought was general anxiety. After that did not work he prescribed me paxil for panic disorder and it completely stopped my panic attacks. Mind you I was not having general anxiety. In fact I was not anxious at all except for when a panic attack would just hit out of no- where. So yes a family doctor can prescribe medication for anxiety.

If the anxiety is something you see that you will need medication for long term, get off your current one. Benzos aren't helpful long term. That is just a bandaid.

I take an SSRI for my anxiety, and while it's not bulletproof, I wouldn't be where I am without it. It helps immensely. As does talking with a therapist, but you know that part.

You can probably get an appointment with a psychiatric nurse practitioner who can prescribe medicine easier than an MD. I was in a bind after moving cities and called a bunch of offices before I found a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a relatively soon opening.

Opposite for me. I was on an SSRI (Prozac) for depression/panic attacks. It helped the depression but didn't stop the panic attacks. Added Xanax and no more panic attacks.

OP, I use The Family Center in the OLOL complex. Wouldn't hurt to give give them a call just to check availability.
