Everyone from there loves it and hates on BR so much. Also what is growing up like in other parts of LA? Ive never been around much in NOLA, northshore, north louisana or the grand isle area.

Like all Louisiana cities, the people that stay will never leave and couldn’t imagine living somewhere else. The people that leave see it for the shithole that it is.

I got my heart broken by a girl from Lafayette and 1 or 2 in NOLA. I never want to go to these places.

Those NOLA girls will do that to you.

It was pretty cool. The Acadiana Mall was great back then. The waterfall, puppet theater, that little flipping puppet thing at the shoe store, I think it was Greenwood Shoes, and the pet store were all good memories back then.

been in Lafayette since 95, good place to live and raise kids. I was born in Houston, lived in Corpus Christi and Boulder, Colorado. Colorado was the best, but it is expensive, Lafayette isn't as big of a city as it thinks it is, but it does have a lot to offer, doesn't have the traffic of BR and Nola nor the Crime. Good schools and good youth sports, and plenty of things to do.

It's traffic sucks for the size of the city. No major throughways is a problem.

Definitely a keeping up with the Joneses town, but home to some incredibly nice people. It’s relatively safe, and though the traffic is bad, it’s relatively confined to one area.
The oil crunch absolutely wrecked the place in the 80’s, causing it to go from boomtown to ghost town virtually over night. The oil service companies in Youngsville and Broussard which have kept the city afloat are going through a similar purge today. The downtown is small, but has some decent restaurants and bars for a town its size. There’s more to do than one might think, but still not the most fun place to be single in your 20’s.
If things don’t turn around economically, Lafayette could be in serious crisis very soon and see a similar shuttering that it and BR saw in the 80’s. However, for now, it is a great place to raise a family, and STM produces really good graduates. Not nearly as whorey as St. Joe’s or as douchy as Catholic High or Jesuit.
