He can cast lightning blasts at a distance and they usually show up a few seconds before landing as a blue glow on the ground. Coral Highlands can make those very difficult to see depending on where you're at and the lighting of the area.
When he goes to the final area up top and enrages he got me with a pretty sick one that did multiple lines of lightning. In the middle of high rank, he was a tough challenge as a low rank monster.

I only fought him once, but I couldn't for the life of me see much of a window to attack for any period of time without being electrocuted.

I'd usually get in a couple hits and roll away. He didn't give many opportunities to really go to town on him.
I've people suggest just getting a bow and it just trivializes the fight. Might consider that option for the HR version when I get there.

Tempered Kirin was my first real wall. I had my thunder resist up to 45 and thought it'd be a breeze. After he 1 hit me a few times, I actually did a little research. So, I went and made a lbg and equipped slicing ammo. Easiest fight ever after that.

I've been farming Pukei-Pukei the last few nights for venom sacs so I can upgrade my weapon and kinsect, and the bastard just won't drop them.

Try capturing if you're not. Believe it's a higher chance to get them.
Things I can't seem to get are fricking Anjanath Fangs. Have to break his head to get them and being near his face is usually a good way to get your arse kicked. I've pretty much given up on the Anja LS and just made the Rathalos one for my fire weapon.

Doesn’t Anja LS have low affinity?
I’m having to farm for the xenojiva gem to make his long sword. Anybody had luck with that drop?
ETA- and if you really want to break his head and are using LS, I wouldn’t think it would be too bad using helm breaker on his head. Also knock him over and wail on his head

Don’t read into affinity too much as long as you have the correct decorations. I mainly use the Diablos Bow that has -30 affinity, but with an elementless jewel, stacking crit jewels and having the highest base attack of all the other bows it wrecks.

Gotten pretty lucky with those. Have the Xeno LS and (2) gems still in my box.
And while the Anja LS does have low affinity, it has a higher base damage and more elemental damage than the Rath sword to make up for it. Still think I'll prefer the Rath sword, which is why I abandoned the Anja sword pretty quickly.

Captured it 3 times last night. Even sent out a safari of cats to hopefully get it in a drop. Nada.

It’s not a carve drop is it? Some things (like the odo gem I also need) you’ll never get as a regular reward. I’ve beat the shite out of a bunch of Odis and carved tails and still nothing.

Well the first night I was killing him and was getting nothing. Friend suggesting capturing and still not seeing it. So.........maybe it has a ridiculously low drop rate.

Can you not meld it? There have been a couple of times where I've just melded gems I've needed because after five or so fights I didn't get it to drop.

Be sure to check your hunter notes on frequency and how to get it. Some things are low rank only also. If it’s a one star drop then just keep trying

I got one on my first kill, haven't gotten another after 5 more kills.
Nerg gem to make my Rarity 8 Lance .... 16 kills and running with no gem.
Vaal Hazak needed for Guard 3 on my charm? 8 Kills and running with no gem.
Don't want to burn my gold print for either just yet, but I am about to cave.

I only just found out that the weekly limited bounties are great for getting the rare gems. Gold wyverian prints can be melded for gems. Y’all probably knew that already but most of the bounties have been just out of reach for me for where I was at in the game.
Side note, 2 tempered bazel are no joke. If you want to be safe on that one, use long range weapon.

I caved and used my print for the Nerg Gem, on my very next Vaal kill, I got a Gem. Lance armor complete now:
Guard Up (Uragaan set)
Guard 5
Part Breaker 3
Weakness Exploit 3
Uragaan Chest, legs, waist
Teostra gloves
Dragon King eyepatch
Ironsides 3 (guard 3)
also have the rarity 8 Nerg and Bezel lances, and the last Pukei Pukei lance with 540 poison damage for those enemies weak to poison.
