And what about those faculty members at LSU and elsewhere who haven’t had a raise of any size in many, many years and they’re seeing what’s happening in athletics

What don't the dems get about supply and demand?

There are thousands of BS professors that LSU could hire to teach geology 101, but there are very few coaches that can win a NC.

Given that good coaches are in a far fewer supply, they are also in much higher demand. This means coaches get millions and professors get thousands.

Add to that the fact that the football program makes a ton of money for the school and (as noted) don't receive their salaries from the state. So STFU Gov.

its also flawed logic....the private money is there to be spent on football, if that money went away, the person wouldn't say "oh hell I guess I'll donate to the math dept. instead"

And in some cases the damn TA might as well be teaching those classes.

That's an absurd statement and actually makes the democrats out to be the smart one.

In a perfect world, we as a society should value someone's academic prowess far more than we should their athletic. Let's face it, pro sports players aren't fricking curing cancer or helping solve the grand unified theory. They are doing nothing to advance the human species.

Unfortunately we prefer our school to win a championship in football over a Nobel prize.

However, we are talking about private money so realistically, the government should stay out of trying to tell people what they can and can not spend their money on (this includes substances that are currently illegal). People should be able to piss away their money if they want.
