Suppose you were just setting out in the world and were not going to college. What would be the best trade to take up today?
Plumbing?
HVAC?
Welding?
and of course . . . .
Plant operator?

Always need good welders

I would do HVAC among those. Probably the best bet for running and independent contracting service.
I almost want to say that various programming/security skills in computing are a trade - in which case I'd go with that.

but if someone doesnt like to get their hands dirty, CAD is a good field, but it has become saturated.

And it will never be automated. I was thinking that too.

There seems to be a shortage on plumbers.
It's not a great looking job to many, but I've heard they make over 100k.

Any of them if you're willing to work, well except plant operator, you just need to know how to sit for that one.

Always a demand for plumbers and electricians

I'd go operator or welder.
Spent time in HVAC and one overlooked fact is that you are constantly hot as shite because you are never anywhere with a working AC.
Edit: full disclosure I work in finance so I might be a pussy.

Wouldn't trade my commercial electrician job for anything
My own truck, pay is good (not OT good but sufficient) get to work outside most of the time.

Jump on a boat, see the world and earn sea time. Get your captain's license and see more of the world and make good money.

Plumber or electrician. Work for experience and to network with builders/contractors. Then set yourelsefl up with your own shop and focus on new construction. The work is cleaner and easier and you aren’t having to go troubleshoot and fix someone else’s screw-up.

It’s hard to get hired as an operator young. I’m in my early 20’s and got lucky. Majority of the dudes I work with are in their 40s and early 50s about to retire.

If you aren't afraid of hard work, go to trade school to learn pipe fitting or welding
