Small sample size. If you don't know what that means, ask your wife.

Spoken like a person who didn't grow up watching in the 80s. Defense was a joke back then.
Da fuq?
What a myth this has become among Millenials.
And yes, I watched the 1984 Finals. Prohibition on zone provided more defense as everyone was in everyone's face...not just standing around letting Steph Curry jack up 3's beyond the arc.
When Larry Bird shot a 3, there was Michael Cooper all up in his face even if Bird was 35 feet from the basket.

Off of one game. You are missing out. There is some unbelievable young talent in today’s game. It’s going to be very exciting in years to come...and I’m not a basketball fan. Much rather football and baseball. But this season has dragged me in.

And everything is a goddamn foul now.
Kurt Rambis got clothes-lined by Mchale in the Finals - just taken out.
And you know what they called...a simple foul - not Technical.
The Chief punched and knocked out Bill Lambiere and you know what they called?
No intentional foul, no Technical foul - just a simple two-shot foul.
Now you breathe on Steph Curry and it's a whistle, tech, ejection double tech, 4 shot foul

8 of the top 10 highest league average field goal percentages were from the 80’s. The other two were 1978 and 1979.
And the two years from the 80’s that were outside the top 10 were 1988 and 1989, and those years ranked 11th and 12th.
So the entire 80’s were 10 of the 12 highest field goal percentages in NBA history.
Why?
Because they played zero defense in the 80’s.

And everything is a goddamn foul now.
Last season there were an average of 19.9 fouls called per game.
Here are the averages for the 80’s:

because bird did not have the threat of blowing by you. i am a steph hater lol. but the dude has amazing handles and speed, and prob the quickest release we have ever seen...throw in that he can consistantly drain 3s from anywhere once he crosses half court, he is prob the hardest player in history to guard rim to rim

That is common sense. Back then guys were ALWAYS fouling out of games. You rarely ever see anyone foul out these days.

I quit watching years ago. I don’t miss it at all.

Watched my first nba game this season last week. The first three quarters were some of the worst basketball I’ve ever seen. They don’t actually play tough until about 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter. It’s like they have a truce for the first three quarters to take it easy on each other then they only have to actually try for about 6 minutes.
