You must be new to Star Trek to have that mindset. The Orville is better at being Star Trek. Discovery thinks its Battlestar Galactica.

Nope. Been a fan for a very long time and have watched all the shows and movies.

Wouldn’t know, they chose to make the show unviewable to 99% if the population.

Orville is fantastic, thought I wouldn't like it. Very surprised.
Discovery is pretty good though as well. I can't stand the lead girl from TWD though, she keeps fricking up and getting rewarded for breaking the rules on purpose and getting people killed.

The production quality is outstanding and I find the stories familiar yet new. Just what any good franchise needs. I'm not yet sold wholeheartedly but it's got my interest. I'm also enjoying what they're doing with the leads on the show and shaking up the natural order. I'm enjoying it and plan to keep watching and see where it goes.

I've enjoyed the show. The stories are solid and the effects are spectacular. The only problem for me is that it doesn't really feel like a Star Trek show because it focuses almost exclusively on a single character whereas the previous shows were far more ensemble productions.

The episode with Dwight Schrute was probably the most classic Star Trek type episode.

The show is rather awesome.
Last night's episode really rocked if you are an old school star trek fan.
I won't give any spoilers away...but it was well worth the hour.

bullshite. Spend $6 at the end of the month and you can watch the entire season.
My apologies if you’re homeless and posting from the public library.

It’s been amazing. Some great episodes in the first half season. The half season premiere this Sunday kicked the series into high gear. Lorca is the most interesting Star Trek captain ever.

Must be a fan of crap like Nemesis and Final Frontier.
Regardless, how is this supposed to be 10 years before Kirk? We already had a prequel series. Do something after Voyager. Give us new things. No, trample over what we love and inject "culcha" into it.

I hate that the ship is more advanced than the enterprise D, yet is at ten years before the original 1701 enterprise was built.

Yep. Good episode. Jonathan Frakes directed it, which is pretty cool.

I've been a Star Trek fan since I was a kid, and though I haven't seen the latest episode of Discovery, I've liked it overall. It only occasionally *feels* like Star Trek but I'm still interested in seeing where it goes and the production values are frequently impressive. It has a lot of potential.
I do, however, wish they would have just set it in the future after the Next Gen movies (which are mostly terrible) instead of trying to cram it in before the original series. It just seems unnecessary and it's forced me to accept the fact that it's not going to make any sense why this ship is so advanced compared to ships after it in the timeline.
I haven't checked out The Orville yet but I'm pretty tired of Seth Macfarlane's brand of humor, so I'm hesitant.

Damn so did Discovery come back, I knew it was in break but I forgot when it was returning.

quote:Reality is getting to the point where the technology in the 1960's series is less and less "amazing". The communications aspects especially. Handheld communicators and on-screen ship to ship communications are already past tech for us. The 3 1/2 inch floppy disc used in the original series is ancient history to us. I have no problem with the showrunners taking poetic license with the tech so that we're not watching a show set in a 1960's idea of what the future would be.

Let’s call everything what it actually is:
The Orville is now Star Trek
Star Trek Discovery is now Star Wars
Star Wars is now Liberal Propaganda
