Just to go on record about Ensminger before anything is announced......

I've had some fun on this board and the rant with the whole SE as OC possibility, but I will say that Ensminger is not the end of the world from an Xs and Os standpoint.
Based on his performance last year, Ensminger is obviously not a system guy. It looks like he has no system and just tries to take advantage of the team strengths whenever possible. That can actually be a good thing.
My biggest concern with SE is recruiting and QB development. When it comes to Xs and Os, his redzone offense was much better than anything we ran this year. Our TD percentage in the redzone under SE last year was as follows:
October - 100%
November - 58.82%
December/January - 66.67%
Our overall TD% for 2016 was 62.5%. That was with Cam Cameron averaging 46.15% in August/September.
Canada's overall TD% for 2017 was 58.93%.
Again, I DO NOT WANT SE AS OC!, but I really don't think it will be the apocalypse that many on here think it will be from a play calling standpoint.
ETA: All i'm saying is that neither the O Supporters or deniers are correct about what happens if SE is named OC. The answer is most likely somewhere in the middle.

Finally some rational thought on here lol

That’s actually a worse scenario than the whole thing tanking.
7-8 wins a year in perpetuity, with nobody getting fired.
Thanks for nothing.

ility, but I will say that Ensminger is not the end of the world
but that's really the problem. He's making this hire to keep our floor relatively high to where he can hopefully limp past 2019. Ensminger may be good enough to hide behind what should be a damn good D allowing us to beat up on inferior teams. But when we go up against teams with similar talent and better coaching, we'll likely lose. This is a survival move for Ed, rather than one that benefits the program as a whole.
Instead of modernizing the offense, its business as usual.

Dude?
October - 100%
November - 58.82%
December/January - 66.67%
That's not exactly a murderer's row of defenses?
October - 100%

steve benefited greatly from the lowered bar of expectations put forth by Cam. We should expect to do the things he did against those teams. However, a good OC fares better than steve did the two teams he faced a D with a pulse.
Steve is adequate, nothing more.

Ensminger is one of the best recruiters in the nation. Most of the rumors about his promotion are to give SE more influence with recruits going forward, and less to do with Ensminger getting the play calling duties.

Agreed.

we were promised ELITE coordinators when O was hired.

Ensminger has never installed his offense at LSU.
He has called plays using another man's offense and play sheet.
How is this too hard for people to understand?
I'm on record saying it's a terrible OC hire.

i don't see how he can survive past year 3 with 7-8 wins.

you're asking the same people that couldn't recognize the difference in being an interim coach vs. actual head of the program. They may seem the same, but its 2 totally different ball games

TBH, I dont think Ensminger would be horrible, but i also dont think he would be very good.
Just think to yourself, what chance does SE have of out-gameplanning Saban's defense? You know the answer to that.
The WHOLE point of firing Les was to elevate ourselves to be able to beat Bama every now and then. Steve is a direct contradiction to that goal, which is what makes it such a bad hire.

we want excellence, not somewhere in the middle

The main problem is we still haven’t hired anyone that can develope a QB. This is a very lazy hire. We fired Les and promoted his staff members. I feel like if you are gonna do that why fire Les in the 1st place?

I in no way support this lazy-arse, idiotic hire, but what's your concern with recruiting? Ensminger is a very good recruiter. I know he was a LA kid, but he pretty much just single-handedly landed one of the top WRs in the country. And I'm sure, given all of the smoke concerning Canada being gone, Marshall was decently informed of what was happening with the offensive staff.

and even in this set up.....you're passing game coordinator is a WRs coach.
I get steve has a background in QBs, but you're telling me in the 8 years he's been here, he hasn't had any hand at all in coaching them?
Posted on 1/8/18 at 10:18 am to TheCaterpillar
Does anyone know what his system is? This is a serious question and don't say the USC offense.

Agree 100%.
That's why I don't want SE as OC.
