Louisiana Kicking Prospects 2018-2021

Since kickers and kicker recruiting is such a hot button this week, I figured I would update you guys on what the Louisiana scene looks like now and in the near furture. Bear in mind, that Louisiana is not a historic hotbed bed of D-1 kicking talent and I am sure there may be a guy here or there that I have missed, but these are the kickers who I have or plan to scout and who are on the national recruiting radar:

Class of 2018 –

Cade Baggett – Sulphur H.S. (National Rankings: Kohl’s # 71) The best Louisiana prospect in the class. Made solid improvements this year in mechanics and repeatability. Saw him in Wisconsin last year where he placed 57/350 on KOs. Has a 65-68 yard leg with 3.5+ hang time. With continued improvements, he is putting in 5 yards deep in college. Solid FG kicker. He charted 75% in Wisconsin, but had charted 80% at a competition camp earlier in the year. Look for him to pick up a late offer from a non-power 5 D-1 school.

Adam Ieyoub - St. Louis Catholic, Lake Charles (National Rankings: Kohl’s # 94, Chris Sailer #110) Current Offer – Army. I really like Ieyoub. I caught him at a camp last Spring and watched him land Kick-Offs in the back of the end zone with a 3.5+ hangtime. He also charted 8/10 on FG in that camp. He is going to be a good pick up for someone. Like Baggett, I expect to see him kicking for a non-power 5 D-1 school.

Nathan Holiday – Live Oak H.S.(National Rankings: Kohls #100 +) I started watching Holiday last season and was hopeful to see more development over this year. Strikes the ball well, but has some consistency issues. Timing seems to be his biggest issue. Would need to focus attention on this to be able to kick at next level. Possible small school walk-on.

Martell Fontenot – Zachary H.S. (National Rankings: ProKicker.com #20) I am not usually high on ProKicker.com rankings, but Fontenot had a good 2017 season winning All- District 4-5. Very accurate short to mid-range FG kicker. Needs to improve consistency on Kickoffs and hang-time. Dedicated focus on leg strength and leg speed is necessary for Fontenot to have a shot at the next level.


Class of 2019 –

Andrew Stein – NorthShore H.S. (National Rankings: Kohl’s #35, Chris Sailer 2017 Semi-Finalist Top-HS Kicker) So far, Stein is the stand out Louisiana kicker in this class, but not necessarily by default. He already has a 70 yard/3.4 hang leg….look for it to get even stronger. Recently charted 5/10 on FG. This stat is a little deceptive because most of the misses were “good misses”. The ball explodes off his foot and I think he has great rotation speed on the ball. This equates to consistency and control. This could have easily been 8/10.

Josh McCoy - Loyola H.S., (National Rankings: Chris Sailer #67) Very solid prospect. Is coached by Matt Nelson with Husted kicking. I love that he his taking the ball off the ground on FG and PATs. Very consistent, smooth and confident of FGs. Needs to gain a little leg strength on KO and tempo refinement this year on Kick-Offs. I am expecting him to get to the next level.

Noah Sheets – H.S. (National Ranking: Chris Sailer #111) FG stronger than KO and has potential to improve both. Decent range for his age. I have not seen him in person, but I think he is another who works with Coach Nelson. The scouting reports I have seen have me curious about him. Will keep eye open.

Max Scheurich – Jesuit H.S. (National Rankings: Kohl’s unranked 4 star kicker) Caught him at a couple camps last year. Strong leg, but very erratic. Can drop it 5 yards deep on kick off or leave it 5 yards short. Guys that just muscle the ball downfield drive me nuts because with some mechanical refinement they can turn into good kickers…..without it they are like trying to target shoot with a blunderbuss. The jury is out on him, but I like some of what I saw.

Colin Lahaye – Lafayette Christian H.S. (National Rankings: Kohl’s unranked four star kicker, Kohl’s #43 Punter) – Very interesting prospect. I saw him recently in Texas. Charted 8/10 on FG. Like Scheurich, he lacked control on Kick-Offs and crushed a few into the end zone, but also dropped a few short. He is actually a very good punter, averaging 42 + yards with a 4.0 hang. He actually had a few balls up around a 4.3 hang. Hit a last second FG to win State for his HS. With continued development I would not be surprised to him get picked up as a punter who came with the bonus of placekicking skills, if needed.

Class of 2020 –

Parker Lee – Pineville, H.S. (National Rankings: Chris Sailer #44) Already a big 6’4” 190lbs. , Lee is starting to take advantage of that long swing plane. Would love to see him use this frame to develop as a punter. I have not seen Lee in person, but reports indicate both KO and FG are progressing very well. I was told he is looking for private coach during the off-season and if he hooks up with the right one, expect to see his name in the next couple of years. I love kickers with either a compact build ( 5’9”ish ) and the tall guys (6’3”)….Lee is gonna be a good one.

Cohen Parent – Dutchtown H.S. (National Rankings: Chris Sailer #56,Kohl’s unranked 4 star kicker) Another Louisiana kid I had the opportunity to recently see in person. Hits an impressive ball for a sophomore. His KO lands between the 5 and about 3 yards deep. This is a good average, but I prefer to see a together shot group. More consistency in his approach and contact on sweet spot is where I think he needs to focus, as his shorter kicks tend to have a shorter hang time. This tells me he is not getting under the ball, and thus is not a problem with his plant foot. FGs are impressive and I did not see him spray balls right or left. Hits it down the middle.

Class of 2021 –

Cameron Beall - Denham Springs H.S. (National Rankings: Kohl’s unranked 3 1/2 Star Kicker) Very mechanically sound. Advanced for his age. Also saw him at a recent Texas camp. Currently dropping KOs at the 5 with a 3.0 + hang time. Went 4/10 on FG hitting as far out as 45. As with Stein, Beall’s misses were what I consider “good misses”. They were not balls that hooked or sliced off. Balls were straight down the line, evidencing good control and tempo. Natural growth and commitment to strength gains will determine the next 3 years.
