Martell Fontenot – Zachary H.S. (National Rankings: ProKicker.com #20) I am not usually high on ProKicker.com rankings, but Fontenot had a good 2017 season winning All- District 4-5. Very accurate short to mid-range FG kicker. Needs to improve consistency on Kickoffs and hang-time. Dedicated focus on leg strength and leg speed is necessary for Fontenot to have a shot at the next level.

This is the one LSU should go after imo. He is the reason they beat Destrehan and West Monroe. He kicked a 46, 40, and 30 against WM. The 46 yarder landed in the student section. Zachary is such a good school, I’m sure he qualifies for TOPS. I’d pursue him hard as a preferred walk on. Kid was legit.

Is this Chip Lahaye's son?

The guy I know is actually know his step dad, I think, last name Woodson. I don't think his biological father is really involved, I don't know enough to know if that's because he's an absentee father or if he passed away, but I think it is unlikely that it is Chip Lahaye.

Culp was supposed to be a great kicker. You and everyone else who knows kicking thought he was a great prospect. What the hell happened to that kid? Mental?

Good question. Lemme answer with a rhetorical question. Would a school take a blue chip HS running back or QB or lineman and just throw him out there and tell him to be perfect? Hell no. They put the kid with good coaches and they continue to develop his skills.... they identify mechanical flaws that develop and teach the kid ways to recognize and correct the problem.

Schools do this with every position.....EXCEPT kickers. Culps problem is he developed some mechanical problems in his kick and no one on staff has the ability to identify, correct, and/or coach the issue.

Right. But EVERY school does this with kickers, not just LSU. And there are plenty of good reliable kickers in college football. I mean, up until this year, LSU, with the same flawed model you're talking about, has had really good place kicking.

Yes and no. What you will find is that many kickers will seek out their own private coaching or stay involved in their HS recruiting camp service. I know past LSU kickers have gone this route

I don’t know how accurate or reliable a website as prokicker is but in the class of 2020, ranked at number 6 in the nation is William Grand out of St. Paul’s in Covington. I know he has been kicking for just under a year now and with another two years before he steps on a college campus, he might develop into a nice prospect..

I believe he is a transfer. He didn't play this year so we'll see.

Nope he was JV because he was relatively the same in skill as the first year Varsity kicker(Senior) so the Coach gave the Senior the nod on that sole fact.

Why didn't they have him kickoff this year? Good lord, they were terrible.

No idea, I’d put the blame on the head coach(Sears). He has improved his kickoff distance in the last few months a ton so he may not have been to par with the other kicker during the season in that regard.
