Anyone else have trouble keeping a healthy diet even though they lead an active lifestyle?

I typically don't do the activities I do to lose weight. It's a beneficial side effect, but I've never been really overweight (skinny fat sure, but not fat). The more I do, the more I eat. And typically, the more I do means less time available and I'm worn out, so I order a pizza or something. For instance, tonight is 1.5 hours on the bike and an hour in the pool. Probably 1200+ calories burned, but hardly any free time. Nights like this, I come home starving and pig out.

Sticking to workouts is not an issue. Sticking to a diet has been impossible. Again, I usually don't care about weight, but want to lose about 12-15 lbs for a race coming up (Currently ~5'11" 172-175). I can sort of eat well when not extremely active, but I find it's 10x's harder when training. I maintain, but it's hard to lose when trying to get under 170 (big help for cycling and running)

I had pizza for lunch, Whataburger for dinner, along with my son and wife's leftover Whataburger . I eat like a goat that lives by a fast food restaurant dumpster most of the time.

Yeah I've been hitting the weights hard for 2 years and haven't lost much fat. Most of that is due to binge eating.

But most people wouldn't say I'm fat. I just don't have abs showing. I'm fat.

Just started my cut this week and I'm tired of fricking around and not having a top notch physique.

Meal prepping takes time. Current weekend schedule pretty much has mornings of both days completely taken up. Already having to do things I can't cover during the week due to workouts (cleaning, clothes, family, etc.). Just no time after work, so I have to that on the weekend in addition to those being my longest training days. Already doing more than normal as we dropped the maid to pay for a coach/trainer .

You are right that it is my solution, but I'm just complaining about how difficult it is to achieve. I don't know how people do it. I cook about 3-4 times a week and can get some leftovers. But it hasn't been a huge savior to my poor habits or anything.

I basically eat what I want to. Genetically I'm on the lean side so I could be pretty ripped if I made the effort to eat clean.

it's hard for me not to eat everything in the kitchen during marathon training. i generally try to keep it clean during the week (tonight is family christmas so i'll enjoy myself) and let whatever happens happen on the weekend.

They have these bags of vegetables that steam right inside their own bag. So I'll get a glass of sangria, sit down in front of the TV, my bag of vegetables, before you know it I'm ready for bed.

had my yogurt for breakfast w/ banana yesterday then my baked chicken, brown rice, and half a sweet potato for lunch.
went home, drank bunch of red wine maybe a beer or two, very porportional spaghetti w/ wheat pasta.

then came 9 oclock and probably warmed up 6 or 7 square cut slices leftovers from papajohns.

I eat the right amount of food. It's just the lifting part is off by 150 to 200 pounds or so for the big three.

So today is a good example

Breakfast-cereal (but usually a 400ish calorie smoothie)

Lunch- baked chicken, steamed carrots and broccoli, little leftover macaroni and cheese.

Pain in the arse day at work. Still sending out quotes. Have a masters swim class at 7 and have to ride hour and a half afterwards. Probably going to do something like order Chinese takeout (lo mein and fried rice to really get those carbs in), and devour a crap ton of chocolate chip cookies. I'm already hungry and when I get to that point with adding workouts on top, all will power goes out the window. I don't gain weight, so there's no motivation to stop. Only motivation to lose is getting to "race weight" and cookies trump race weight.

This really isn't about how to do it.....I know how. I just can't and don't see how people do.

My exact feeling on working out. Clearly, what boils down to is what you love.

Sounds like being active is a hobby (if not a passion, from the sound of it) for you. That is what diet is for me.

I don't know how people work out because by the time I get home from work, cook dinner, eat, and clean it all up.. it's nighttime. Sounds like you feel the same about cooking. By the time you get home from work and work out, it's just too late to sit down and plan meals/cook.
