No shite, that's how I feel too. Hell, we've probably had our snow for 20 years.

In before Katrina happened after it snowed Christmas 2004...

Side note... Awesome, I loved last weeks weather...

and, what ever happened to the "mild winter" they predicted for this year...

As exciting as that would be, this last snowstorm wasn't exactly predicted correctly.

We weren't even supposed to see accumulations up here in Birmingham. Maybe a half inch to an inch, they said the day before.

6.5 inches in my backyard.

Smart move--I'll put the down payment on the Snowmobile though just in case he weighs in!

Looks like the GFS is backing off of the threat for frozen precip at this time BUT remember that these model runs this far out are like a Bourbon Street whore's panties - they're all over the place. This will continue to change until a day or two before the actual event.

However, what I did notice is the MASSIVE arctic blast appearing to move south at the end of the run. After the front comes through on Christmas night, we have lows in the 20's for a few nights in a row then Elsa and her little bitch arse friends come south and start doing their thing. Check out the temps coming down from Canada here.

No, meteorologists wiffed. Spann had us getting 1/4 inch and posted 4 models all agreeing that we would get way more. Makes 0 sense to me.

She falls down a well, eyes go crossed. She gets kicked by a mule, they go back to normal. I dunno

Last night's GFS runs are still pointing to a major ice storm for somewhere in the south. In fact, it's more confident now than yesterday.

December 26th

December 27th

December 28th

This storm system showing on the models is likely to screw over half the country from the day after christmas for several days after based on the recent runs. It's been pretty consistently showing some snow/sleet/freezing rain from Texas up to Maine

My trees could barely handle the heavy wet snow on Friday. If we get a lot of freezing rain, I'm afraid I will have some major damage on my property. As well as some very extended power outages.

Until a model other than the GFS shows it, I don't buy it. The signals are there for cold, that is for sure. I fly back into town on the 30th so hopefully there is nothing going on that day. If it is going to be a big snow event then I hope I don't miss it but I can't complain about spending Christmas at Disney.

One thing to keep a close eye on is whether a stout SE ridge appears this winter. That has ruined many a winter for us in Louisiana as we are usually right on the edge of that and only get glancing cold blasts, or even worse, stay extremely warm while areas just a little to our west are having winter fun.

I have thousands of pounds of fell lumber in my yard. You could stand outside (Atlanta) friday night and just hear trees snapping in every direction. Looks like a flora bomb went off in north east Cobb.

2 weeks out models.

Snow and ice in the south can barely be predicted accurately 2-3 days in advance.
