Is there a bigger f-up than Marshall Faulk being told he had to be a DB?

Was just chatting with some friends about LA players leaving the state, and how Faulk was told by LSU that he'd have to change position. Granted, almost every school told him that and that's why he went west (correct me if I'm remembering this wrong). My friend said that back in that time people had the perception that RB's had to be bruisers and Faulk was a little undersized in everyone's opinion.

What are some other examples of "WTF were you thinking" with recruits?

All the SEC schools wanted him to play DB.

Right - MF is a relatively smart guy (I assume you've seen him do analysis since he retired) - the story goes, he said, "If I have to go down in competitive level to play RB, I might as well go to SDSU and live on the beach for 3 or 4 years."

And he did. Like a boss.

Sometimes it’s just impossible to quantify a players instincts and athleticism and how that transfers to the field at the next level. If it were just one school that made this assumption with Faulk, I’d question it. But there were quite a few.

Agreed, Faulk is probably at the top of that list.

That Travis Etienne miss is already looking ignorant. Not the same as telling him to come play corner or something, but it makes sense to offer the best rb's in Louisiana as early as possible.

I believe LSU told Faulk, McNair and Favre to play DB.

Warrick Dunn was a DB too. One day, after pestering Bowden to the point where Bowden devided to teach him a lesson, he let Dunn have the last play of live practice against the first team defense (best in the country at that time) at RB.
Dunn went 80 yards for a TD with what Bowden called sub par blocking by his o line. He never played D again

Saban recruited Pat White as a Defensive Back when he was at LSU.

I’d say Jamie Foxx being moved from QB to corner because he had quick feet.

Pete Jenkins is asked this question all the time because he is the one who recruited Faulk. His half joking reply is that his evaluation was right and he still believes Faulk would have made a hell of a DB.
