I'm from the north, lived there most of my life. Been in the south over 6 years now. I don't need the article to tell me anything. The north, Midwest/near Omaha, isn't racist, just like the south isn't racist. The population of black people is smaller there, however the Hispanic population is larger it seemed. These statements are all my perception, so if statistics dont match....then maybe it's that the north seems to be more segregated. So maybe the north is more racist...in the south you can knock on 3 doors in a row and find three different races of people. You can't do that very commonly around Omaha. The south is more diverse at least.
I think a true comparison is which race is more racist...and I would vote that Caucasian is the least racist.
I think a lot of progressives call people racist if a white person does not like a black person.
There are several black people I dislike. But not because they are black but because they are shitty people. And I will add that there are a lot of shitty white people out there as well.
I have a small farm in one of the poorest counties in Alabama. There are about 300 people who live within a 10 mile radius of it. Maybe 50 of them are white. They all work together in the same jobs and for the most part get along well. There certainly isnt the perception that all white people are racist. A few weeks ago I was heading home from the farm and I had an accident while avoiding a deer. Ran off the road and my right front tire hit a culvert and went flat.
Every single person who passed me stopped to check on me. Now this is a small county (paved) road and it was only about 8-9 people in the 30 minutes it took for me to change the flat and check out the truck for more damage. Would those people have stopped to check on a white guy if they thought we were all evil racists?
No.
Some people just want to make things out to be worse than they are. Or the ones screaming "racist!!" is actually a racist and are trying to make people believe that it is the norm.

i've lived in chicago and the pacific nw. both places are way more racist than the south. a lot of that passive "black people need our help" type racism too. it's like they don't even think they're actual people.

yes
typically people who want to yield power to correct these alleged negatives
it's not a liberal or conservative thing. it's a human thing that just manifests itself slightly differently along political lines

Without reading the article, I'm going to guess that the main theme, underlying or otherwise, is that the north might be just as if not more racist because it has more white people, who as we all know are inherently racist.
Right or wrong?

Last night I saw Lester Maddox on a TV show
With some smart arse New York Jew
And the Jew laughed at Lester Maddox
And the audience laughed at Lester Maddox too
Well he may be a fool but he's our fool
If they think they're better than him they're wrong
So I went to the park and I took some paper along
And that's where I made this song
We talk real funny down here
We drink too much and we laugh too loud
We're too dumb to make it in no Northern town
And we're keepin' the ****s down
We got no-necked oilmen from Texas
And good ol' boys from Tennessee
And colleges men from LSU
Went in dumb. Come out dumb too
Hustlin' 'round Atlanta in their alligator shoes
Gettin' drunk every weekend at the barbecues
And they're keepin' the ****s down
We're rednecks, we're rednecks
And we don't know our arse from a hole in the ground
We're rednecks, we're rednecks
And we're keeping the ****s down
Now your northern ****'s a Negro
You see he's got his dignity
Down here we're too ignorant to realize
That the North has set the **** free
Yes he's free to be put in a cage
In Harlem in New York City
And he's free to be put in a cage on the South-Side of Chicago
And the West-Side
And he's free to be put in a cage in Hough in Cleveland
And he's free to be put in a cage in East St. Louis
And he's free to be put in a cage in Fillmore in San Francisco
And he's free to be put in a cage in Roxbury in Boston
They're gatherin' 'em up from miles around
Keepin' the ****s down
We're rednecks, we're rednecks
And we don't know our arse from a hole in the ground
We're rednecks, we're rednecks
And we're keeping the ****s down
We are keeping the ****s down

Race is mostly an artificial concept based on a lot of things that barely register as significant genetic variants, beginning with skin color.
Most of our current racial 'identity' factors -and the prejudices and biases associated with such delineations- have roots in outmoded 19th Century theories that today could only be charitably described as 'pseudo science'.
Whether these classification constructs have resulted in social divisions and outcomes is another argument altogether.
However, the original point remains: our current use of such superficial observations such as skin color to define 'race' is patently absurd. A far better pattern of distinction could be derived from migratory geography as it related to our genetic ancestors through DNA variations.

Southerners fought a literal war to keep a whole race enslaved.
So the armies of Delaware, Maryland, and Kentucky fought to keep their slaves until after the war ended, and you think the south fought for slavery?

You guys are desperate to have a black man validate your belief that "Those damn Yankees are more racist than us!", while you cling to your confederate regalia and all talk shite behind closed doors.
I can't wait until people like you are irrelevant in society.

They did. Every Articles of Secession from the Confederate states mentioned slavery. Know what words were not in any of them? States' rights.
And yes, there was slavery in the North. The North wasn't fighting to end slavery. They were fighting to protect the Union. This is middle school level American history that the South has misconstrued since Reconstruction.

So the north wasnt fighting to end slavery, but the south was fighting to keep slavery?

There's racial animosity everywhere. Where I live it has to do with natives. They fricking hate everyone.

I know people from Ohio and Boston that day shite my grandad wouldn’t say. And that’s some real bad stuff lol.
I had a roommate from the Cleveland area for a couple years. Get them behind closed doors and they said the most racist stuff imaginable, n-words all over the damn place. However, as soon as they were in public, they were the first to publicly shame and/or ridicule someone for saying anything that could remotely be perceived as offensive. It's all about avoiding the appearance of racism for those people.
Also, this dude was straight up scared of black people. His lily-white-privilege suburb had like zero black people, so he was in serious culture shock in Baton Rouge. I used to take him to eat at places in the ghetto just to f&%k with him.

Correct. The two things can be mutually exclusive. Better said though is the South was fighting to form their own nation where slavery could persist. The momentum was rolling towards slavery being outlawed, and they saw that train coming down the tracks. That's why they seceded.

it even happens here in little old LC, where it's not nearly as dangerous
