FYI, the article is from The Root, but it makes some very good points regarding how "racist" the South is perceived. As always, don't disregard the entire article when the author deviates here and there - overall, it makes VERY solid points that work well when your friends from up North or out West try and state that the South is "racist".

I don't think he gets THAT granular (looking at city maps, etc) but he does demonstrate that for home ownership, the top 3 states are all deep South.

I was in Philly for a work trip with a black co-worker. We walked all over the city and when we talked to people you could tell they thought it was odd that a white dude and a black dude from Louisiana were hanging out together
Meanwhile i hardly saw any groups hanging out that were racially diverse as TV would have you believe

Lived in NYC, Queen's to be more specific, for 2 years. Some of the most foul mouthed, bigoted, assholes to walk the planet. Racism permeates every facet of society. There is no more, or less.

in addition, i wish they had data on this, i will bet a lot of money that the South has a much larger % of the population that is has interracial children (and more specifically, white and black people having the kids). i think the only data is on interracial marriage, which is a bad metric given the lower class's hatred of marriage
