Trump just officially reduced Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears National Monuments

His decision removes roughly 2 million acres from the two sites, which potentially could now be leased for energy exploration or opened for specific activities such as use of off-road vehicles.

Good. Clinton stole that land from the state of Utah, announcing the new national park from Arizona because he was too chicken to go into Utah to do it.

The inevitable lawsuit over this may take the Antiquities Act all the way to the Supreme Court.

Agreed, but we can't just sell public lands to a bidder. IMO, most federal land west of the Mississippi (they own about 75-80%, btw) ought to be open to homesteading.

That's meant to rustle some jimmies...
Now it's just up to the state of Utah to decide how they want to use that land. The land still had the potential for energy exploration or specific activities such as use of off-road vehicles under the feds. It's just now that potential is under the jurisdiction of the state.

Love Escalante, one of the most spectacular sunset drives in the world. However, it is vast and I can see where it needed to be reduced. Never heard of Bears Ears.

There’s no need for the entire millions of acres of desert to be preserved as a “national monument”
