Just saw on Fox. New changes in July that roll back Michelle Obama rules on "healthy" lunches that kids are throwing in the trash now.

Things like WHOLE milk and food prepared using salt are back! The horror!

Look, I am not an Obama fan, but I could never understand why trying to make school lunches healthy was somehow controversial.

Sad that this is even an issue. If you're too poor to feed your own kids, then you shouldn't be having any

What they should do is get the school kids to work their own school farm where they grown their own fruit and veg, and raise livestock. That would eliminate processed garbage meals, give them exercise so they can fight diabetes taking over their ranks, and give them a real understanding of life and where your food comes from. It would almost certainly save money as well.

I've been in the School cafeteria during lunch. Kids have to take a protein and 3 vegetables. If not the lunch lady makes them go back and get it. A lot of kids eat 1 thing off there plate, pick a thing or two, then throw the rest away. Whole apples, banannas, bread rolls..... nothing wrong with it, they theowing it away because they were forced to take it.

i dont ever remember the food being bad in junior high or high school

i frequently ate 2nd's for pizza, hamburgers, jambalaya or red beans and rice.

this was mid to late 90's, did it go to shite that quickly?

I don't know the details but I'm assuming there's more to it than this. Are things like corn syrup laden chocolate milk and honey buns also coming back? If so then this is not a good thing. Eating habits start young. If kids get to regularly eat things like soda and chips for lunch you are likely contributing to the obesity problem in this country for the next 60ish years.

This really isn’t a partisan issue. People with a wide range of political leanings involved with nutrition and health at EBR Public Schools agree that the Obama nutrition regulations needed to be fixed. All agreed that the nutritional value of the food that was being served prior to the healthy regs could be improved. The problem was, in hindsight, that the regulations should have probably been phased in so the kids gradually adjusted their taste to different foods. When they’re used to salty and sweet junk, food with out sugar and salt is going to taste even worse than it already does. As a result you had kids not eating, which for many was worse than eating salty and sugary food.

There was nothing wrong with what Michelle Obama intended to do. The execution was just too quick.

Somehow wanting kids to be healthy and eat healthy foods is now a partisan issue...hope the circle jerks for supporters of both parties are worth it.
