They have terrible instability in their admin, they have a powerful booster who is an idiot, they are trapped between the Georgia/Florida level and the rest of the SECE and they have a subpar local talent base

Other than that they are awesome

UT is now seen as a school that bows to social media pressure from fans.

What self respecting coach would want to work for that?

This assessment is spot on!

Knoxville is a great place to live and raise a family. It still has a “small town” feel, while having the amenities of a larger city.

That being said, the administration has shot the FB program in the foot year after year, at least since the Fuller firing. It doesn’t help that one of the biggest booster families for the school has the reverse Midas touch when it comes to football...everything the Haslam’s touch, in regards to football, turns to shite!

I hate it for the fans...UT could and should be a great program...but I don’t blame coaches for avoiding the dumpster fire.

Until the admin decides they want to actually invest in the program and swallow their pride and admit it ain’t 1999 anymore as well as pushing back on booster influence when it comes to coaching searches...until then, the shitshow will continue!

As a Nashvillian that grew up in an LSU/Vandy household, it’s easy to sit back and chuckle at this debacle, but I truly hope UT can get their house in shape to the point they are a relevant powerhouse in the East again. Maybe we’ll see less AL crap around town if that happens....(I swear I’ve seen more AL fan bumper stickers and flags and gear since moving back to the Nashvegas area than I ever did as a kid/teenager in the 80’s/90’s)

Much like Nebraska, they are utterly dependent on out of state recruiting

This is 100% wrong. The population explosion in Nashville over the last 10 years, combined with the investment in improved high school coaching (especially on the private school circuit) means that UT has the newest, fastest growing recruiting hotbed 3 hours from campus.

Culturally, North GA and Western NC are the exact same as East TN and UT is a lot closer than their respective flagships.

Terrible administration and boosters, especially mega booster Haslam, who also owns the Cleveland Browns.

After firing Fulmer, they have ruined the FB program with very bad HC hiring decisions, starting with Kiffin.

The Kiffin hire was very high risk to blow up in their face. They did it anyway. Kiffin left the program in such a shambles it was an unattractive job.

Then, instead of hiring a proven program builder, they hired Derek Dooley. Then, they repeat the same mistake by hiring Butch Jones.

Then instead of hiring Blackburn as AD, they hire Haslam yes-man Currie. Haslam and Currie try to sneak in Currie's buddy Schiano.

The fans are so sick of all that shite they revolt, refusing to accept any more of it.

So here they are.

Their recruiting is terrible. UT has never been popular in the western half of the state. They don’t recruit Atlanta well anymore. They are in a spot.

Players get recruited and committ to people.
Not a place.

Leadership is what Tenn needs.
They have everything else all the big boys in the sec do.

Instability only came from what kiffin did. Thats the problem. They had 2 coaches for 20-25 yrs. UT hasnt figured out how to handle the current coaching landscape.

They had 2 coaches for a 32 year period (Majors 16 years, Fulmer 16 years). Hiring Kiffin is when all of this crap started. Actually...that isn't true. UT replacing Doug Dickey with Mike Hamilton is how this all began. The administration has been horrible since he was hired in 2003. That was when the wheels started coming off.

UT just needs to find that one coach that can take the tools we have to build the machine.

A freakin' time machine is what UT needs the next coach to be able to build.
