Terrible news for you, McKenna and the gymnastics family. Best wishes for successful surgery and speedy recovery. God bless you and your family.

Usually it takes up to 6 months to completely recover but the staff would obviously ease her back in when she gets healthy again.

This type of injury I wouldn't think would end her career. Now if she had a major knee or head injury then that's a little different.

McKenna will be back everyone. These types of injuries are actually common. a lot of gymnast experience this.

She's at the end of her career anyways, I'm sure she will finish out her career here.

McKenna is a tough girl, I've been fortunate to get to meet her plenty of times, she can get through anything.

I'm extremely sad we won't see her this season, but I'm excited to see how the freshman repond and how they compete

Not sure how many people know this but 5 of the 7 freshman came in with injuries that kept them out of the spring. Some even have gone through minor procedures this fall

Hate this so much for her and for the team. This is obviously a huge blow for the season, especially coming off of losing such a fantastic senior class.

I wonder who gets those 4 spots on floor, and we could have certainly used that 10 start value vault. I don’t think anyone else can step in with a another 10 start value vault.

Priessman staying healthy is more crucial than ever now. I wonder if the could downgrade her floor any and make it easier for her to get through? Maybe take a page out of Oklahoma’s book and just go easier but clean on floor this year.

They are already trying not to over use priessman

They can't afford to lose her.

I would expect edney, Ruby Harrold and a few freshman to fill in these other sports

There is NO WAY she will be recovered in 6 months. She may be doing some things, some fitness stuff, etc.

This will be incredibly hard for her to come back from. For a gymnast, this is easily a 12 month recovery. The amount of force a gymnast puts on the achilles is astronomical.

I guess when she has surgery they will try and figure out if this was the result of overuse, wear and tear, some sort of degenerative or weakening effect, or perhaps (and hopefully) just a random event.

Yes, gymnasts do come back from it..... but it's going to be incredibly tough. I will certainly be praying for her and the family.

I meant at 6 months she will likely be able to do a little bit more exercise. There will be a lot of therapy involved. It will take a total around 8-10 months before she starts to hit gymnastics training, then she has to be back in gymnast form which takes a bit of time which will take months. Some people recover much quicker than others, some take more time, it really depends IMO

It probably was the result of wear and tear on her from years of pounding on her body. It happens to most gymnasts unfortunately. You would need to be extremely lucky not to face at least one major injury in your career. I don't know really any that went a full career without any. Unfortunately its the price of a sport thats extremely brutal on ones body.

Lexi Priessman is extremely fragile. Elite career really took a toll on her body. We have seen it here at LSU. SO LSU is extremely cautious in the way they use her. She has had a lot of ankle problems.

Not many know Desiderio was likely about to quit elite even before LSU. Elite level training is ridiculously brutal and it really killed Christina. Which is why DD has been soft with her all fall and now she is almost 100%.

I think she will be back. Sure it will not be an easy road but I have seen many come back from far worse injuries.

Of course prayers to her and her family. I still actually expect Mary Lou to attend meets. Mary Lou has another daughter committed to LSU. Emma Kelley, so they will attend many meets this season.

Maybe maybe not. A lot of the freshman can make major contributions

We still have a lot of upperclassman who can fill other roles.

IMO i am most concerned about floor due to inexperience.

LSU needed to replace two vaulters, Sarah Edwards and Lexi Priessman now are likely your two people who fill those spots. Keep an eye on Cannamela, if it weren't for injuries last year, she likely was your lead off vaulter. She does have a better block off the table compared to Finnegan. FYI Finnegan is training a 1 1/2

Bars, its almost all but decided that Durante will fill that role for Zamardi. She scores in the 9.90's in all off the competitions in practice.

Mckenna was suppose to see action on beam possibly but LSU is already extremely deep so it doesn't affect that event.

Where the concern is floor. Only hambrick and Finnegan are the two returning routines. Edney has shown she can score 9.9's on floor. Desiderio will definitely take one of those spots as well. We all know Desiderio was an instant impact on floor. That leaves two routines up for anyone.

You have Lexi Priessman but she has a history of ankle problems

Many do not know but Erin Macadaeg is excellent on this event but never really competed on this event. DD held her back last year due to ankle problems.

Ruby harrold is extremely capable as well

Then you look at the freshman such as Dean and Campbell who DD has raved about already.

I think this is a major blow on floor but I think LSU will be fine on all other events. I am sure someone will step up and surprise us, someone always does

MCKenna seemed to be growing into the emotional and spiritual leader of the team which was handled so capably by Bugs and Sydney the last two years. I am sure she will still be there for them but would have been great to have her out on the floor. The team is so deep that someone or maybe a couple of gymnasts will find away to replace her scoring.
