This is horrible news. She has the potential to be one of the best-known and best-loved LSU student-athletes. This is a major setback for LSU and a crushing loss for all LSU fan.
I pray and hope for a full recovery. We need her in purple and gold doing her thing.

Ouch! That's not an easy injury to recover from.
Here's to a complete recovery though.
Get well, McKenna.

It probably was the result of wear and tear on her from years of pounding on her body
If that is indeed why it ruptured, she could be done. I'm hoping that it happened as a result of randomness and had nothing to do with weakness. I mean this is all speculation at this point, but hopefully at some point she can come back.
I'd be curious to know whether or not something like the bars would be less stressful on the achilles than the floor. Logically to me it seems like floor would be the most stressful on it.

Every girl experiences wear and tear on their bodies. Years of pounding and rigorous training will do that to you.
I didn't see the injury happen but I was told she landed a little funny when it happened.
It's probably a combination of randomness, landing on it the wrong way and some muscle degeneration over the years
Bars would be a better even. It's not hard pounding events like vault and floor
I think she will be back.

It only takes a casual fan's observation of the sport to realize how the kinetic energies involved must rip, bruise, abuse and tear at muscle and bone, not to mention tendon and ligament.
If you like to see human beings triumph and overcome tremendous punishment to the mind, spirit and body, gymnastics is your sport. It looks brutal to my casual eyes.
The attractiveness of the sport to me is this mix of beauty and brute strength that I see when I watch women's gymnastics.
