When a CEO openly admits that he may have made a mistake by opening a business downtown, where his employees fear for their lives and their cars and property are not safe due to a homeless population that Portland wants to blissfully ignore, that should say volumes.

But the Portland city leadership is too obtuse to figure it out. And somehow the "alt-right" is likely to get the blame.

One of their solutions is They are going to teach people to keep their cars "showroom clean" to deter car break-ins.

Isn't that like teaching girls not to wear skirts to deter sexual assault?

Victim shaming. The left can't have it both ways!

What?

"Oh, look, that cars too shiny and clean, with those sweet armor-alld tires. Better not break into it".

Like that'll work.

I think they mean the inside of the car. Honestly I think that works...if you don't want your car broken into then don't leave things inside in plain view.

It's already here, just on a smaller scale.

I took a family vacation to Oregon last year. I spent one day in downtown Portland. It was SHOCKING.

Whatever the multi-block park is called was absolutely dripping with homeless. One of the days driving through DT on our way to the zoo, they were out with feeding tables. I am not sure, but it looked almost like a city effort to set up food service to cater to the homeless. I equated it to feeding stray cats, and my wife and I both agreed it would reach critical mass at some point and scare off tourists and business completely.

There were homeless crazies wandering every sidewalk with random shouting and harassment. I felt unsafe with my kids a few times.

Never been to Portland but lived in Denver for a little bit. The homeless problem there was way worse than anything I could have imagined. If Portland is worse than that, then I’ll just go ahead and chalk it up as somewhere I don’t want to go.

I live in a suburb of Portland and avoid downtown like the plague. Go down there once a month maybe and that's for a nice dinner or concert or something. The homeless are everywhere. I've called the cops on them 2-3 times when they caused disruptions in the neighborhood. Everyone is moving to the outskirts of Portland and the cost of living is increasing accordingly.

The general mindset of progressives.

Have everyone else change their lifestyle to cater to the degenerates.

Especially liberal regions. I believe San Francisco has one of the highest homeless populations in the country.

I've spent a little time in Downtown Denver as well. There were homeless, but it was nothing like Portland. Downtown was absolutely dripping with crazy hobos. The rest of the city had large swatches of tent cities in parks and empty lots as well as lining the streets. It was surreal and obvious that even in the short-term it was going to hamper the city.

Liberal paradise

I used to travel to Portland and worked downtown over a decade ago and this was a problem at that time. Homeless, especially in their earlier 20’s, were everywhere.

Welcome to Downtown Portland. (Google Street View Link)

This was how much of downtown looked. The downtown park was just a concentration of this nearly edge to edge.
