Ruptured disc or slipped disc (or is it the same thing?) ?
I had a corgi mix that was paralyzed from a slipped disc when he was 6. We loved him and went through with a $5k surgery, as the doctors gave a better than 50/50 chance at recovery. No chance we would have put him down without first exhausting all options.
We had to get him in the pool for physical therapy daily, but I remember the first time I saw his hind legs moving again was one of the happiest moments of my life. He was walking again within 4 months or so.
He lived til 17, it was the best $5000 ever spent, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat if needed.

I’m pretty sure it was ruptured. I have no idea if ruptured and slipped disc are two separate injuries or if they’re the same thing but with different names

Happened to my dachshund. Couldn't move his back legs so he drug himself around for a few weeks with his front legs. It was the most pathetic thing youve ever seen. Then he got his feelings back in his legs and lived another 5-6 years. Lived to be 16.

Kind of left everyone hanging. What did you do with your ol' girl? Put her down or is she still around?
I had to put her down. One of the hardest things I've ever had to do.
I knew it was time... She wasn't enjoying living anymore.

Same thing happened to my grandma and we ended up putting her down. Good luck.

Literally just had something similar happen to our dog. He ruptured his disc on Monday and was paralyzed in his hind legs. We went ahead and paid for the surgery ($6500), and he has feeling in his legs. Now we have to give Physical Therapy to him over the next 3 months. 7 years old and is a great dog, I saw no other option.

Rough decision, but I think you have to put him down.

not really. you put the dog down and don't spend your families' 6k on a possible fix.

Happened to our Dachshund. Vet said take him home and keep him in a crate as much as possible to limit movement and see how it went. He said he might heal up and be fine (right, I thought) or you could be looking at an expensive surgery.
We did the crate, had to come home at lunch to take him out, etc. After two weeks, he started to improve. Slowly, he got better. We had to keep him skinny and not let him on furniture he could jump from.
He went on to live for many years and could run like crazy, though with an odd swagger. He caught and disemboweled a rat, and he cracked the bones of two squirrels that were not quick enough to evade him.

My dachshund fell off of a table and messed up a disk in his back. He couldn't really move. Vet did a laser treatment on him a couple times and completely fixed him. Vet said it had like a 20% chance of it working, but it worked great and he lived a few more years with no problems. Don't know if that's something you can do. It was more for his back than his hips I think.

Just went through it with 2 wieners. One had a severed spinal cord, came back from it, and it happened again, so we had surgery again on her, said she wouldn’t ever walk again, she is running crazy all over the house on all 4.
The other one had a ruptured disc 3 months ago, got it repaired, then a month ago she has a disc in her neck ruptured, got it fixed and she is doing good now, but still having to have confined time to her kennel everyday until the Doc says it’s ok to move around more. It is a lot to deal with, but we have a great Doc, and he has only charged us $2000 per surgery

Try thawing it in the sink. That's what I do with frozen wieners.

Did they suggest acupuncture therapy as an option ?
My vet at Dodge City in Denham suggested this.
