Well, the global population is increasing rapidly, either way.
It’s just that the % of people like us isn’t.

This is bunk. They are selfish and have no intention of 'missing the party' because of Jr. needing someone to watch him.
You nailed it. Big homes they don't need because they don't have kids. Expensive automobiles so they can call themselves "ballers". That's what it's all about. I don't hold it against them, each to his own, but I don't think it's right for them to blame the previous generation.
For me, the fun started when I started having kids. I feel bad for anyone who hasn't experienced that joy. But at the same time, I also understand that childhood, for many of those people, was not a pleasant experience. So they don't look at it as something they want to do to a child of their own.
It's a Catch 22. I don't see it as a blame thing. It's life. Some seed falls on fertile ground, some among thorns. That happens both to individuals and to generations. I was one of the lucky ones and I'm thankful for it.

I’m a married husband and parent of 2 girls age 4 and 3.
Parenting, job, and other life activities are very challenging. There’s a lot on strain between me and my wife.
But we will make it and things will get better.
Look, society and families are in decay. Raising my two daughters will probably be the most important thing I ever do. It sure ain’t no hipster bullshite.

Things will bet better, and at the same time, things aren't as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. Take joy in your role as a parent and that joy will be what your girls will remember and draw strength from when they become parents and wives. It's a never ending story that is greatly threatened right now because of the "decay" you spoke of. Don't be part of the decay. We can pull out of the nose dive, but it takes individuals, like you, that are committed to the positive things in life.

The most recent data shows the number is 1.8. That means “negative” population growth.
And this is a bad thing, why exactly?
There's too many frickin people already. I see this as nothing but good.

When the tax and entitlement system is set up like a pyramid scheme, something deemed illegal in private industry, it certainly has to be increasing

We dont have a lot of money!! I don't want to be broke trying to raise a kid

Don't feel bad for me. I didn't give up anything. I gained something. I have grandchildren now that run up to me and shower love on me. It's awesome! Like I said, each to his own. I just think parenting is something that is impossible to appreciate until you've done it.
I'm glad you had a great childhood. I do find it strange that you would be such a cynic (about being a parent, not assuming anything else) without some negativity in your background. Are you generally that way, or is it just about being a parent. Not bashing. I'm seriously curious. Do you see the glass half empty or half full?

This is why people are having smaller families. People want the same or better for their children than what they experienced growing up. The expenses for 2 kids now are probably closer to what the expenses were for 4 kids 30 yrs ago.

i get it perfectly actually; its you thats been fooled
my grandparents had very little else to do in their life, very few choices about who they had relationships with or when they had kids, no birth control, no ability to travel, no such thing as a career.
why would i give the freedoms we have in the modern period away?
and its funny the same people who seem to be all ga-ga about having children are the very same people society would be better off without.
no thx

The cost of having and raising a child now is 100x more expensive than our parents

If your life choices have made you happy, that's all that matters. I'm happy for you. The last thing we need is more unhappy people. Truth is, because of the way you feel about having children, you wouldn't be a good parent anyway. I salute you for being true to yourself.

From tigerhead
This is what I’m getting at. If what you desire is a commitment free life and that makes you happy, great. It is not what i envisioned for my future.
Fatherhood has been the most rewarding experience of my young life and it’s not even close. But that’s me and what I wanted. It was never forced on me and giving up absolute freedom of time? That was gone when i got a dog. I have chosen to ground myself for the next 20 years and every day when I get Home and my family is there, it makes it absolutely worth it for me.
When I said you don’t get it, I mean the previous paragraph, not life in general.

We did it to ourselves. The standard of living has increased a lot.
When my dad was little they had an outdoor shitter and no AC. Look at the apartments and houses college grads expect to fall into.
