What constitutes alcohol addiction

One drink a day, 2 drinks a day, more? What if you couldn't care less whether or not you drank that day, but still do it out of habit? I would think that ranks differently than someone who has that constant urge.
Would you consider post college binge drinking on the weekends alcoholism?
Personally, I have a drink a day and will binge on the weekends but not to the point of hangover unless there's an event which necessitates such. What about the OT?

Has nothing to do with consumption in terms of volume.

Can’t go a day without it...letting it dictate your daily routine while romancing the thought of drinking

When your body needs it to function.

My doctor told me 12 drinks a week, constitutes alcoholism.
That's a motivated Tuesday.

I dont know if I am addicted. Never tried to quit.

Like any other addiction in very simple terms it is need vs want.
When a person mentally or physically needs a drink to start the day then there is likely an issue.

When you get sick without it.

This or when it starts to affect other people or your daily affairs is what i would consider alcoholism.

He needs more training on the subject if that's the case. Alcohol addiction is both biological and physical. An arbitrary 12 drink maximum is balderdash.

That’s not even the medical definition of “heavy drinking,” which is still not remotely “alcoholism.”

I started to talk to someone after having a panic attack that I think was related to lack of alcohol. I had a long weekend of heavy drinking, got up, smoked a bunch of cigs and a fat bowl, got in the car, and almost passed out from crippling anxiety (which I had never experienced before).
Afterwards, I would intentionally go without in the day and noticed that the same gut wrenching feeling would start to pop up, but no attacks. Finally consulted a counselor and he had me taper off instead of seeking real treatment (he didn't think it was that advanced).
It's been about three months and I feel much better and can go several days without drinking with no problem. I still drink (and often heavily), but not the way I used to.

When you become powerless over it, and your life becomes unmanageable.
Admitting to this is literally the 1st step in AA.

I drink every morning but I’m not addicted.

I've had two employees that couldn't start their day without drinking. They'd actually show up at work wreaking of alcohol....unbelieveable. One of them had his wife bring him to work one morning. He opened the passenger door and fell out on the concrete in front of customers. He was sent home and fired the following day (he had already been warned.) These are examples of alcohol addiction.

After bender weekends like a wedding or guys trip I get crippling hangover anxiety.
Indica + a glass of wine + a xanax = fixed

I drink most nights of the week, but on Sundays and weeknights its usually 1 drink (scotch) as I relax and watch HBO before bed. Or maybe 2 if we have red wine with dinner.
On weekends I can slam em down.
I'm not an alcoholic though because I don't need it. I enjoy it, but stop all the time and have stopped for 10 days recently because of some antibiotics I was taking.
No withdrawals or anything close to a symptom.
