The alternative to the pipeline is having the oil being transported by much less efficient and safe means. It sucks whenever there is an environmental disaster, but if we are going to use petroleum products, then we must use the best means possible, and at the moment Keystone is better than using something like rail distribution.

FWIW, most pipeline leaks occur in the first years of start up and the last years of the pipeline's life cycle.
