Are you saying this is some sort of ecological disaster? Or just an opportunity to say "see, unrefined oil leaked, knew it would, we're killing the Earth because Republicans!"? Oil has to get from one point to the other. Would you recommend transporting it through congested highways/railways instead? Or better yet, ban oil?

This isn't the gulf or an ocean spill though.. I recently worked a fuel truck spill of ~5,000 gallons and there were dead animals for miles. It still smelled like gasoline weeks later during my follow-up visit. They'll be working on remediation for at least a year before it's no longer obvious that something happened.

This is nasty stuff but there are some really cool microbial digestion products that do wonders though. Keystone guys are professionals and I'm sure they handled it properly.. especially with a camera pointed at them 24/7.

If people gave a shite about all pipelines and oil transportation and not just this one they might actually do a bit of good in the world.

Not calling you a liar. Dead animals for miles seems a bit much for a half empty big rig spill.

The 18 wheeler tankers carry from 5k to 11k gallons
So it is basically 4 trucks

Uhh... 19-42 trucks, baw. Come on now.

5,000 barrels is 210,000 gallons

So yeah, it’s kind of a big deal.

It obviously tapered off over the distance but this is pretty normal for moderate sized spills. Gasoline sits on top and travels pretty well.

Well are they going to clean it up? Thought so.

Anybody that is calling for the ban on this crap should volunteer to go without ALL fossil fuels and their derivatives and anything that used oil in it manufacturing or transportation.

If you use it (and anyone using a computer does) then you are a hypocrite if you are against the pipeline.

This damn thing doesn’t help Americans. It moves Canadian oil sands oil to the Gulf to be shipped elsewhere.

Did people in Louisiana forget this quickly how difficult it is to truly salvage the environment after a massive oil spill?

Always goin* to be something negative. How many barrels have gone through the pipeline without leaking? Environmentalist never want to talk about the success stories.

There is no "success story" when it comes to building pipelines when it comes to the environment. Sure it could help out American consumers, but the construction process permanently displaces animals and vegetation, emissions from trucks and factories pollutes the air and again displaces animals and vegetation, and then every so often there's a spill.

There is zero upside to this, environmentally speaking.
