I bent over backwards trying to re enlist and got pushed out bc of the previous administration. now theyre so desperate

I tried this as well. I was a 8 year Marine but I tried to enlist in the Army after being out for 6 years. They gave me 3 options. EOD (blow myself up), Infantry (no thanks, I'm now 35 years old at this time), and Special Forces. As a Marine I was thinking, what the frick? How does one chose special forces as a job? In the Marines we had to be selected for that shite or at least go to the indoc for it. Couldn't believe there was nothing else available for a former NBC bubba.

It's a recruiting gimmick. Sure, you can enlist for 18X...but you have to pass Infantry OSUT. Then Airborne. Then pass selection. You fail any step, NEEDS OF DU ARMEEZ!!!

In other words, a nice pipeline to fill MOSs that no sane person would pick voluntarily.

Then again, it also leaves a pipeline open for the true badasses out there to skip all the bullshite.

There’s plenty out there that experimented a little bit then moved on. They aren’t all addicts.

Those are not "abusers".

I seen quite a lot of really good Marines get the Big Chicken Dinner because they screwed up from being young and stupid and popped on a test. Do the other branches have a zero tolerance policy on drug use?

I wanted to go out of high school and someone talked me out of it and I'm very very glad they did. Otherwise I would have just been sent out to be paid well to learn/experience some cool shite, see some unique locations, make some lifelong friends, and have college paid for afterwards.

But maybe you would have been part the 1% that heard a bullet snap over your head, who knows. Still something to take from that experience too though

During the late 60's we had our share of nuts, flower children and anti-socials during boot at PIMCRD. A majority of them came courtesy of the draft. We knew who signed up and who had their number called. As training went on, the D.I.s had an innate ability to weed out the worst. They would be with us one day, the next they were just gone...shipped home. They others the D.I.s saw something in them that they could work with and turn into Marines.

If every branch of the service had Marine Corps Drill Instructors like we had, this wouldn't be that much of an issue. Believe me, they know who to keep and who to throw back.

That's scary to think someone could smoke a joint and go join the military

No one cares about that.

I am more concerned with letting the mentally ill inside. I mean, do we really need a bi-polar dude off his meds in there?

Priceless.

The Army is such an insecure shite show.

You need to be on drugs or crazy in order to fight & possibly die fighting the Houthis or Hezbollah on behalf of the Saudis or Israel.

Dammit. I'm too old now. Why couldn't they have done this seven years ago?

Drug abusers three months in boot camp seems the perfect detox. No issue.

Mentally ill?

No...are you kidding me?
