Beating Bama in the regular season doesn’t matter. Even if we pulled the upset Saturday night how far does Bama drop in the polls? How far does LSU move up? Even if we beat Bama, run the table in the regular season our likely opponent in SECCG is Georgia. Say we lose to GA, Bama runs table with impressive wins vs Auburn and State, does a one loss Bama still make the playoffs? Probably. A three loss LSU no chance. Even beating GA in SECCG might not be enough to make playoffs imo.

Point being LSU should not waste one extra ounce of time worrying about beating Alabama in the regular season, apologizing, etc. The focus should be going undefeated outside of the Bama game and making the strongest case for playoffs or top tier bowl game, much like Bama in 2011/2012.

That’s the smart approach. At this point Bama is a professional college team, and will stay that way so long as CNS runs the show.

Why not just try to beat them anyway?

Going to have to beat them one day if you want the program to continue to ascend.

Interesting. So we should just concede the Bama game every year and beat everyone else? What a great strategy? shite, if Miles had thought of this he'd still be our coach.

And then, if something goes wrong, and we were to lose one of the games leading up to Bama, we could then change the strategy, beat Bama, and get back on schedule.

Shoot, this is making me think. One thing I haven't figured out is if we do this, and we make the playoffs, what do we do in the first playoff game? Do we win that one, or do we lose it?

They are the standard of college football.

Elite players want to go to Bama.

How do you stop that? Well, prove you're better than they are.

It matters.

You're basically saying West and SEC titles don't matter.

So wait after firing a 10 won avg coach because he couldn't beat Bama anymore we now are expected to lower expectations and not beat bama????

Makes alot of sense

Posts like this always remind how dumb some of our fans can be.

You don't think winning the damn conference means a damn thing?

Wait, so you wouldn't happen to be a big fan of Coach O also, would you? Cause that's definitely a philosophy that they would have. Matter of fact I think it's in the binder.

It's crazy how much and how many things have shifted since O took over. There are basically zero expectations now. We sit unranked. Irrelevant. 3 losses. 2 were record-breaking. With many fans saying it's a good season. Ok.

Hell no. I won't accept this crap. This isn't Vanderbilt. This is LSU. A SEC championship is the bare minimum. Every year.

We won't win it every year, but we should be capable of contending.

I don't see a team led by Orgeron even coming close to toppling Bama. Not unless he's so hands off, there's no point in him even being the HC.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd rather play for an SEC title and lose than to lose to Bama, and not have a chance at all. Other wise, wtf are you playing for?

You sound like someone who has never played an organized sport.

Beating Bama doesnt matter? To who? If LSU beat Bama Saturday it would have been our biggest upset victory since the 90's. It would definitely swing some recruits for future teams.

It would have put us in control of the SEC West and our future. We would have raised questions about a 2 loss team in the Playoffs.

If you really believe what you posted then you are a really bad fan. The goal is to win the next football game. Always, no matter who the opponent is.

It does matter... but it doesn't matter if it matters to LSU or not. The streak will probably get to 10 but Nick will be almost 70 by then and you will start to see a decline. It's only a matter of time but the worst is behind us.

I guess it doesn't, just give us a participation trophy.

This is something a loser says. It doesn't matter if you're a loser.
No one likes finishing in second place, and if you do, that's why you'll never finish in first.

I agree that had we won, it would have had zero effect on Bama making the playoff. And no matter what happened, we would likely be left out.

That said, winning would have put us in 1st place in the SEC-W with a very real shot at the SECCG and the SEC Championship.

THAT STILL MATTERS!!!! A lot. The playoffs ore controlled by voters with an agenda. No team has real control over their playoff spot, but they do control their ability to a Conference Title.

That should be goal #1 every year. Then worry about winning the playoff beauty contest
