Did you stop reading that post right there? The very next sentence:

And this has been the law for decades, at least. How law enforcement and prosecutors decide to execute discretion relative to that may have shifted a bit.

I have been married for 26 years and have 3 sons. If they were screwing with someone's property .. the first arse kickin my kids would get would be from me.

Summer of 91 me and two buddies were driving around BR and went through the Highland Road subdivision of a rival Cross Country champion about 10pm. We drove by his house and yelled out "[insert name] sucks." and other mildly degrading jabs.
A neighbor hopped in his convertible 5.0, rag top down so his hair can blow. I digress. he chased us into a dead-end and we tried to get out and run. He grabbed my buddy in a choke hold and threatened us he'd put him to sleep if we ran.
Made us call our parents from his living room and come get us..
The other two buddies parents were furious at them and thanked the neighbor for teaching us a lesson.
My parents were like "WTF you doing choking a 15 yr old for yelling at a house!" and we GTFO there.
Lesson learned? One buddy died in the street 4 yrs later on drugs. The other is a rehabbed junkie turned jesus freak. The good(?) samaritan died of a stress-related stroke about 7 yrs later.
