Post their rushing stats too

Hurts isn't a quarterback
For all practical purposes, Bama runs the wildcat as its base offense.

We need the running game to sell the play action and we need to give him quick throws. I think both are achievable with the players we have on offense
we also need our larger wr's to play physical. Sullivan and drake.

Dude he had 20 carries for 114 yards. Stop blaming 1 play on the outcome of that game.
That's 5.7 yards per carry, I'll take that all day every day. Take away his long of 28 and he has 86 yards on 19 carries for 4.5 YPC. That is still respectable.
The guy with almost identical rushing numbers to Hurts this year is Nick Fitzgerald at Moo State. Hopefully we learned something in that game that can help us in this game.

Hurts was better with kiffen

I love Etling's leadership and glad we have him but that's a fraudulent comparison to suggest equal talent:
1) As someone pointed out already, rushing totals separate the two
2) Hurts passing totals are low because Bama blows people out and they haven't had a need to pass. We simply don't have a passing game. I hope to see it one day...but it ain't here folks.

If we let him run wild like he did last year I think we're toast.

Last season Hurts had 36 total touchdowns
Last season Etling had 12 total touchdowns

I’m aware of the rushing stats differences. Just thought it was interesting how similar their passing stats were.

Hurts has 572 yards rushing and 6 TDs.
Elting has 95 yards and 1 TD.
Alabama converts 44% of their 3rd downs.
LSU converts 36% of theirs.
Alabama scores TDs 70% of the time they are in the redzone, and 90% of the time get points at a minimum.
LSU scores TDs 61% of the time they are in the redzone, and 77% of the time they get points at a minimum.
But lets just look at passing stats to justify Etling is decent.

You can read this whole thread over again and will find no statement from me saying that Etling is decent. Just posted stats for a discussion.
If you actually read the responses, the consensus is that Hurts is a shitty passer.

So since the stats that you posted of both Etling and Hurts are nearly identical, wouldn't that mean Etling is also a shitty passer?

so what are you wanting to discuss?

So a shitty passer is just as good passing as Etling, and better at him in everything else a qb does.

Yep, Bama has an average at best passing game, but the difference is Hurts is a true dual threat. He averages almost 7 yards a carry and their starting RB averages 8.6 ypc. Bama has 2 less rushing TDs (28) in 8 games this year, than we had in 12 games last year. As a matter of fact, they only have 5 less than they did in almost twice the games last year. They are 9th in rushing TDs, 7th in rushing yardage per game, and 3rd in rushing average. We are 47th in rush defense, tied for 55th in rush TDs given up, and 71st in rush average given up.
Bama is going to run all over us, and with our crap pass offense and their strong defense, the time of possession is going to be stupidly in the favor of Bama.

Both are kind of "game managers" with passing. However, I'm pretty sure Hurts leads Bama in rushing attempts. Maybe even yards.
You aren't beating Bama by "hiding" your QB. Even OSU with Cardale Jones making his second start let him fire way.
Etling is clearly limited physically. But he has to be a playmaker if LSU wants to have ANY shot of winning the game. I'd much rather see LSU lose by 25 but allow the QB to take some chances for big plays vs. last year's game were the defense kept LSU in it all game, but you knew the offense couldn't score even if they played 10 quarters instead of 4.
You're the prohibitive underdog. O isn't going to be fired this year if he loses to Bama. Everyone expects it. As Dan Fouts would say: "can't hold anything back now!"

Gotta agree here.... blowout city....

It would’ve been even better if he had bamas oline Etling is a decent serviceable QB

Would still take Hurts every day of the week.
DE would be remarkably more effective behind that Bama OL...........

Yep. Serviceable at best.
