Please stop with this 6/8/12 team playoff nonsense. It would COMPLETELY ruin and dilute the regular season. Non conference games would be meaningless and you would have teams resting starters at the end of the regular season.

The 4-team playoff is enough to insure against disasters like 2003, 2004 and 2008.

This is a fresh topic and will undoubtedly stop the talk for an 8 team playoff.

It isn't and this didn't need it's own thread when there is another one already going.

Right just like the 4 team playoff did.

The NHL has 50% of their teams in the playoffs.

The NFL has 37% of its teams in the playoffs.

MLB has 30% of tis teams in the playoffs.

College Basketball has about 20% of the teams in the playoffs.

College Football has 3% of the teams in the playoffs.

I'm sorry but 3% is ridiculously low. I know you can say - well there's only about 40 teams worth a damn to consider...so even taking that...

That's still only 10%. The lowest of any sport by far.

Step 1... Take the power 5, make them the power 4 and put them in their own FBS Division. Play 9 or 10 conference games. Have the season opener and one mid-season weekend be a "conference challenge" weekend with a trophy that moves around every year to the winning conference.

Step 2... Have your 4 conference title games. Determine who plays in the title game by OVERALL record, not just conference record and not by division. The 2 best teams in the conference play for the conference title.

Step 3... Have the 4 conference champs play each other for the title.

There is your 8 team playoff.
