I present you with an article form the New York Times providing guidance on how to tip housekeepers. I will quote on thing, it's all you need to know about the article.

quote:

Tipping norms, or the lack of them, may be especially unfair to housekeepers, who arguably do more for guests than park their cars or push the cart containing their dinners. Angela Lemus, a housekeeper at the Wyndham Boston Beacon Hill who makes $19.91 per hour, said through a translator

That they make $20 an hour in a city where the average rent is 3x as much as cities in louisiana?

19.91 an hour in NYC isnt as much as you thought when you made this thread.

Yeah I am not tipping housekeepers. It's built into the price of the room I pay for

It's still well above minimum wage and their compensation isn't tip based like waiters/waitresses, which was my point.

Just for the sake of argument:

aren't bellhops?

Aren't bartenders that work at the hotel? etc

Housekeepers do more than most of them. If I stay at a resort and my room is done everyday, I usually leave a tip for a housekeeper.

If its just a hotel and I'm there for 2-3 days probably not.

That’s an issue they need to take up with their employer. I’m already being charged a fee for cleaning the room when I pay for the room. Why should I have to pay for the same service twice?

What is the OT's obsession with tipping?
It's been about a week since the last "do you tip at Sonic" thread. Will be looking for a new one any day.

I stay in hotels a lot for work, traveling for away football games, etc and the second thing i always do after checking in is hang the ‘do not disturb’ sign on the door.. it stays there until i check out.. ive had too many bad experiences with things going missing , and i would just rather the hotel staff stay away from my stuff.

i'll tip the housekeepers if i'm there for an extended period of a week or more. if it's just for a night or two, nah.
