Propose a trade maybe? He gets a 15×70 strip on the edge of where y'alls property meets in another spot and you get a driveway?

Tell them you also own the land next door to them and threaten to turn it into a trailer park or weekend Harley motorcycle club.

They are, but we don’t want our driveway going through their property in case we decide to sell their home in the future after their passing. Don’t want to share a driveway with strangers.

I think yes if its an existing parcel or piece of property. Nowadays most subdivision regs do not allow you to create "new landlocked parcels".

I have not thought about that. That may be a good idea.

This was my thought as as well. If there is no room to do so or they don’t want to, then it sounds like they are illegally subdividing the land.

Lol, so you are trying to force other neighbors to sell you land for an alternate driveway?
Better up your offer

Then keep that part of the property with your future home.

How large are the adjacent properties? Are they relatively small? Maybe both neighbors already feel like the nearest house is close enough and don't want another plunked down in between them.
It sounds like the edge of the "family property" in question is only 70' from the road the neighbors use for access. What's on the opposite side? Is your potential home site just a small parcel at the rear of a larger property?

What are the sizes of your lot and the two you are looking to purchase from? This is important.

Tell them if you had a driveway you are going to build a nice home and live in it. Otherwise you are going to stick a meth trailer on it and rent out dirt cheap and force a right away.

How are the current owners accessing the property at the monent?
Posted on 10/24/17 at 12:18 pm to TDsngumbo
Your land isn't landlocked, you have access through the property the other family member owns, doubt you have a legal leg to stand on.

I am not sure how it works but there is a right of way law in Louisiana. One or both of the neighbors have allow you access. Again I am not sure of the details but there is a law on this.

it's been a long time since I've dealt with anything like this but I think the person trying to gain right of way has to have been using it for access for some time first, without contest

My parents got Fuct on the "Harvard House" in College Town this way...in '93 they lost the strip of lake front property to the right of the house which was included in the '87 sales agreement. There was supposed to be a street between our lots (Princeton Ave was supposed to run from Harvard to E. Lakeshore), but College Lake (lil pond Bert Turner built his house two-doors over on side nearest the Cow Palace) extended/ eroded away the easement years before.
Even though the street couldn't exist, we couldn't get the usufruct revoked. Baw we were fighting was a Councilman, and his house fronted Cornell, but he demanded right of way from Harvard to the back of his lot...of course, he managed to get it revoked and take the strip for himself about a year later.
Ma and Paw 19 sold it in 2002 to another neighbor, who sunk at least 1mil into it...Totally gutted and re-built with imported Italian marble and shite. Then he proceeded to sue the councilman and won (Big Bank take Little Bank type suit, long and $$$$) taking the strip back to the Harvard lot. He still lives on Harvard, I think, in the same house he always lived in and made quite a pretty penny on our house, even after what he paid for it and invested...treated my parents, myself and Mrs. 19 to a 5-day cruise to celebrate the Councilman beatdown with he and his wife.
It's the been the finest house on College Lake since...looks like the lake belongs to that house.
