Yea let’s blame an 18 year old kid for that and not the head coach
Or even Tim Quarterman who very obviously checked out for a month after the OU game.

Omg no one is saying Jones shouldn't take the vast majority of the blame.

I just can't bring my self to actively root for the guy. He didn't give a shite about LSU and really didn't hide it. LSU was just a place for him to kill time til the draft. And I fully believe he divided the locker room of what should have been a much better team when he was here.

Maybe it works the other way around.
He might have had full fan base support IF he acted like he wanted to be here.

Maybe, perhaps, you should look at the coach who played another freshman over established players even though he was shooting bricks for the first two months of the season? You don't think that nonsense would divide a locker room?
Nevermind that the coach was a clueless fraud.

Ehh. I think it was more on the coach than anything. It’s not like he came here and stuck it up.

Wish he would've gotten one for us. He is definitely RoTY though
He was passing to guys missing wide open layups, so it was a little tougher.

Simmons game was always going to translate better to the NBA where he can go one on one and showcase his skills.
When the NBA actually starts to play defense around Christmas, Simmons will have to get way more physical or he's going to get pushed around a lot.

, when he's dominating the NBA for the next 15 years, he'll be used in recruiting material all the time.

His time at LSU was a let down for everyone involved.

Honestly it feels like Ben Simmons was never at LSU.

Simmons was made for the NBA, sometimes that does not translate into college ball.
And honestly, he was LSU's whole team while he was here. Our coaching caused him to check out and he still put up excellent numbers.

he'll be used in recruiting material all the time.
I didn't like his attitude when he was here and the fact that he was here for a VERY forgettable season makes me really not give a shite what he does in the NBA - a sport i don't even watch.

Fans started to turn on Simmons when they realized he wasn't going to be like Kevin Durant. Fans were expecting/hoping for a polished scorer that would give them 25+ every game.

quote:Exactly. Him having a good or even great year in the NBA doesn't change that. Were some people saying he was overrated and are now wrong? I'm sure there are but as far as Ben Simmons connection to LSU it is tenuous at best.
Honestly it feels like Ben Simmons was never at LSU.

Yea. Quarterman trying to engage God Mode every night and Johnny's lack of structure didn't help. He probably lost some fans when he passed on the game winner against NC State but it was a good basketball play. If people want to be critical, his energy and effort defensively (see Houston) was lacking at times. All that said, it was still fun to watch him play here. Too bad it had to be for Johnny on a team with no spine outside of Hornsby.
He's still very close w Hornsby and Malone, and Drake Davis said he helped recruit him to LSU. It's a bit harsh to say he's not a Tiger, though i do see where those idiots come from. They expected him to be nailing shots from all over the court but thats on them for not doing their homework.
And to everyone saying "I told you so!" Wow. Simmons is going to be a star in the pros? Now THAT is a Hot Take.

The fault lies with the ridiculous system devised by the blood-sucking NCAA and the NBA...the kid was forced into the situation and further forced by family connections to attend a school with a terrible coach with little to no talent around him.
All of this. The LSU AD made millions marketing him as the product, while he lost tens of millions having to waste time in college. He played for a terrible coach who could not get the team to perform which made the exploitation of Simmons even more unbearable to him. Fans also treated him like crap hounding him for autographs which were then flipped on ebay.
I enjoyed watching him for a year. And his talent was evident. He carried that team. There wasn't a lot of difference between the team he was on that was competitive and almost knocked off #1 Oklahoma and the team that went 2-16 in the SEC the year after he left.

I do agree with this, but I think Johnny Jones gets the blame on that one. He had a senior leader on the team with a history of triple doubles and basically just gave his role away to a freshmen who hadn't earned it. TQ could have responded better, but Jones sold him down the river.
