Yep. We took what was available.

WTF. Not one completion to wide outs

Because they weren't catching the ball....That has nothing to do with how Canada called the game.

How easily some forget how we would have killed to have the QB throw for 200yrds to ANYONE a few years back.

protection scheme problems,

We are playing three freshman on the O-line, and to counter this Canada chose to call short quick pass plays to the TEs and RBs. I don't see how this is a negative against Canada's play calling.

drives stalling out

We scored 40 points....I don't exactly know what you want. We aren't going to score a TD every drive.

Wasn’t Chark the 2nd leading receiver in the SEC before last night? Canada knows how to throw to the WR. He also knows when to stick with what’s working. Criticizing 600 yds of offense against Ole Miss is sad.

The fake handoff with sweep action and then inside shuttle to the TE was absolutely glorious. Even watching on TV, I didn't know where the fack the ball even was until we had already scored and they showed the replay.

The playaction with the lob pass to the TE on the strong sideline was awesome as well. There was even a blocker over there and not a single defender. Canada schemed OM brilliantly. I'm not ready to crown Canada as the savior of our offense yet, but he definitely knows how to do his job very well, and this offense looks much better in SEC play than I thought it would.

I think Canada has been pretty good all year. It seems like the biggest difference is the motivation and maturation of the players.

LSU's passing game is weak.

Ole Miss took away the deep ball all night, and Canada took everything they were giving him. It really was brilliant. I just hope we can have half of that success vs Bama.

Canada is going to have to be on his game against Bama. Saban absolutely cannot stand having a star player shine against him so he will throw the kitchen sink against Guice. So everyone else will have to pick up the slack. Canada will have to use Guice as the bait to open other opportunities. I also expect Saban to force Etling to try and beat him throwing the ball.

we will need screens against bama blitz. we could use some 3 step drops.

canada does great stretching field horizontally in the run game. problem is we have no consistent vertical pass game so i expect bama not to load box(they still might though) as that only guarantees stops between tackles. i expect them to move people up all across the LOS to stop outside edge runs and of course inside runs. forcing us to go vertical to hang with them. Canada is severely handicapped with this QB,line and receivers. bama can keep 7 in box and have 4 guys on edges(2 on each side)all within 5 yards of the LOS. maybe 10 max. only way to get them off the LOS is going vertical and it has to be done consistently.

Last night the coaches went into the game with a very strong feeling that they could run it at will.

That was confirmed immediately. The game plan was spot on.

I agree and interestingly enough this is what Freeze used to beat Bama twice. He also had a downfield threat to go with it though.

and therein lies the problem!

we cannot rely on low % bombs we need a consistent intermediate game which we have not proven we can execute.

Bingo! I have been saying that since Mett left... If Etling has to sling it and he holds the ball too long or double pumps as he is prone to do he will have six picks.

Well when ole Miss played Alabama in Tuscaloosa, only Hurts ran over 100 yards. Not one running back even got close to 100. Guice went for 276 and Williams 105 in Oxford so maybe you're missing something here...

Our vertical passing game, if you haven't noticed has been non existent for about 5 years.

What team have you been watching?

Im dead serious? What have you been watching? Etling has gotten the majority of his yardage off of deep 50/50 balls.

He is averaging 16yds per completion.

People have been bitching ALL SEASON about not throwing intermediate and short passing plays. Then when we do throw it you bitch about not taking 7 step drops with average to poor pass protection.

Where do you fricks come from? Because its most certainly not from any experience with the game.

Read a book. Learn to understand what youre watching. Until then shut up and listen because you dont know what youre talking about.

I've been tough on the man for 87 formations on trap dive right. But last night we were so balanced and so creative with getting short passes Etling can make into hands of playmakers. I haven't been that fooled watching a LSU game in a long time. Stretched the field without going vertical and being one dimensional, and quick developing plays took pressure off Oline pass blocking.
He's been... what's the word: poking at it... all season. I said long time ago some OCs can use 'spread concepts' without running the spread. In other words, spread the field horizontally IF the players, especially WRs, understand the concept. You can dictate where the back 7 go without having to lay a glove on them, pre-snap and then enhanced with post-snap routes. That's what he's been building towards, at least to me. Canada did some of that successfully last night.

And yes, once the D tries to combat it, it takes pressure off the OL. That's what used to kill us with Miles' offense. You have to risk a little, have some success with those risks... then you can dictate. If you 'contract', i.e. go max protect, then the D can contract and bring more to point of attack quicker and how they choose. Canada forces them to assume that 'risk' by putting pressure on where they have to be in relation to the LoS both pre-snap and then 'moves them' post-snap also.

The WRs 'going though the motions' and either being lazy or not knowing/understanding their roles were killing it earlier.

Integrating it with our zone blocking schemes has also been a hinderance. If you are going to leave someone unblocked intentionally, for gods sake you better make a move to get the guy that you do have to block. Not stand there in no-mans land or double somebody that is designed to be chipped and released (that's the one that infuriates me).
