The Mazda CX-5 sunroof just exploded while driving down the highway. Nothing else was scratched just a loud boom.

if tempered glass has some stress on it, as soon as there is a nick, it will shatter like yours did.

same thing happened to my tempered shower door...one night at 3AM, it sounded like a shotgun went off in my bathroom and there was a pile of shattered glass on the floor.

There are quite a few cars that have been linked with sunroof explosions due to internal stress. I think Mazda was one of the manufacturers but not 100% sure.

I should have said an imbalance in the internal stress, all sunroofs will be tempered glass so it is one big sheet of opposing stresses.

Wasnt a rock. There has been a bunch of that happening recently.

A guy at work had his driver side window explode the other day.

And the owner had a f250 a few years ago do the same thing.

Doubt it’s from a rock. Has it been replaced before? If it has bring back to glass shop, if not then contact the dealership. I haven’t done a Mazda sunroof and honestly don’t get too many sunroofs but it does occasionally happen. I’ve never known one to be hit by a rock. It’s usually either randomly shatters like yours, or someone intentionally broke it, or a limb or something. A sunroof randomly shattering is obviously a defect and you should stress to corporate or whomever if dealership won’t work with you.
