Rodgers has had double digit picks in all of two seasons in his career. I don't think Favre ever had one season without double digit picks

Not really. Brady’s accolades, stats and overall resume are clearly the best in history, and consensus is that he is the goat based on that. However, there are many people that acknowledge that in terms of peak playing ability, Rodgers is the best. Aaron Rodgers is the perfect qb, he has no flaws. Rodgers just wasn’t fortunate enough to play with bellichek, Moss, gronk or a top ranked defense during his career. It’s similar to the jerry rice/randy moss argument. Rice is the goat receiver, but at his best, Moss was more dangerous.

Well thenI disagree as to what criteria--i.e. what questions are we answering--should be considered in determining the GOAT. Because, if the following is true....

And Aaron Rodgers isn't the GOAT, then the GOAT argument is nebulous and stupid.

Favre had one season with a QB rating over 100, Rodgers nine out of 11 so far. There's really nothing that Favre is better than Rodgers at, except turnovers and maybe toughness.

It's been that way forever since people rely so heavily on Super Bowl wins.

There's basically quite literally no argument against saying Aaron Rodgers plays the position of quarterback better than anyone to ever play the game.

As a huge Favre fan, I say Rodgers by a landslide.

This is a silly question. Rodgers is a much better quarterback. Favre had a cannon and could sling it, but he also threw a lot of back-breaking interceptions.

Not to say he's the GOAT ... he isn't ... Not yet (would need a lot to get there win-wise in my eyes personally) ... But in terms of actually playing the position and having a peak to what he can accomplish, he's the best anyone has ever seen.

Then he's the GOAT or GOAT is pretty meaningless.

OK, but by that logic, if some guy comes in and plays 1 game and it's the best QB'd game ever played - he goes 40 for 40 for 800 yards and 8 TDs against a really good D, but then breaks his spine and never plays more than that 1 game, is he the GOAT? No...

To me the "GOAT" title has a lot of requirements, one of which is "being the best at playing the position itself" but also includes winning rings, being a leader, longevity, etc. For that list of qualifications, Brady is the GOAT and at this point it really isn't close. But Rodgers sticks out as far as actually playing the position... no one is better. If he can win 2-3 more rings it wouldn't be a competition though.

That isn't an extension of my logic at all. You're saying he's the best who has ever played the position. You can't arrive at that conclusion on the basis of a single game. But it also - by definition -- doesn't take an entire career.

The point is, a "resume" test is always going to result in a bunch of noise and people talking past each other because it isn't a focused question. Who is the best at their best, on the other hand, is a focused question. it can be disagreed upon of course, but it is orders of magnitude less silly than the "let's throw everything against the wall and see what sticks" resume test.

Rodgers is the prototype NFL qb from an ability standpoint. Favre was the prototype NFL qb from an vocal leader/competitor standpoint. I enjoyed watching Favre more. From his record in the cold being from the Deep South, to his gunslinger mentality he was one of the truly great characters I've ever watched in sports...maybe the greatest.

Also, if "being the best at playing the position itself" is a requirement, and Rodgers is that, then why is Brady GOAT? Did you mean to use a different word than "requirement"?

Favre was as much a liability as he was an asset.

Rodgers is the correct answer here.

What brand of football/rules?

1990's or earlier - Favre
(321 consecutive starts when QB's could be hit)

2000 or later (can't touch QB) Rodgers

fine, Brady is the GOAT, but, Rodgers would go #1 overall in a hypothetical all time re-draft because he is the greatest qb talent in the history of the game.
