What happened to the team that all of a sudden tackling is an issue? Devin White is the only one who consistently looks like an LSU Tiger when he squares up to tackle a guy. Watching highlights of games and I can't remember it ever being this bad. At least not since 2001.

Man I agree it’s a serious problem. They need to practice live tackling all damn week.

What, our defense has always been known to miss tackles...its no different this year..2011 was probaly the one year out of the last 10 where the D was laying the wood.

The players who replaced the players we lost last year, overall aren't close to being as good as the players they replaced and it's all coach O's fault. If he were a better coach, his predecessor would have left him better players. So place blame where blame belongs, squarely on coach O! He should have been better

the defense tackled really good just last season. It's so bad this season they really do need to do live tackling drills all week.

Part of it is the youth on the field. And I'm NOT referring to 'they just don't know how to tackle yet' or something.

How youth, or live action inexperience, contributes to such things is in getting to the right spot or in position. An inexperienced player is going to be a little bit slower reading keys, just a little bit unused to the speed of the game, just a little bit unused to the last sec wiggle of a SEC caliber offensive player.

So they end up with less than optimal position, get an arm on them and not a hat.

I'm not saying this is the one and only reason... just one of the factors in what you're seeing.

And I agree, we've always seemed to have minor tackling issues; as a team we've never been the best tacklers.

Do want to give Tolliver (at least last two games) and Donte Jackson (all season) nods for being good open-field tacklers. In fact, Jackson improving on tackling has elevated his game immensely; it was one of his 2 biggest weaknesses.

It's because the players this year overall aren't nearly as good as the players we lost to the NFL last year, and it's all coach O's fault because he is not a good coach. If he was a good coach, his predecessor would have left him better players. So Alleva must fire him and find a better coach. That's all there is to it right there.

This, when their in position they will tackle better. A good sign that they are getting there is when you see several jerseys around the ball and at times Saturday we started to see that. When 5 jerseys are there one or two could miss and you wouldn’t know it.

Tre White
Jamal Adams
Kendall Beckwith
The real Arden Key

I mean, its easy to replace those guys right?

I see a lot of just running into a guy instead of wrapping up and driving through. That is the difference between high school and college that some of the younger guys are still learning. You aren't as physically superior at this level compared to the high school level, thus fundamentals are all the more important.

Except for the BYU game tackling has been atrocious all year. I wish there was a stat for average yards after contact. It would be ugly for us to know. Yes, even DWhite has had his share of misses, too.

I know we were hyper critical of Miles' super long and physical practices, but maybe they were necessary during the summer. I agree we don't need them mid season but maybe they got the team prepared to tackle and play physically

Everyone is trying to reach in to strip the ball instead of tackling the player.

The vast majority of our missed tackles are from the secondary.

It's called your All-American safety and DB went to the NFL last year and you replaced them with true freshmen.

We go through this every few years. The younger players in the secondary have trouble wrapping up. They will get better.

The good news, is the defense took a step forward at Florida. Now if the offense could just figure out how to have a pulse.
