What coaching hire would have LSU in a different spot?

I was not for the Orgeron hire. However, he is our coach now and (imo) he will be here through next season at minimum.
It is folly to ignore our obvious personnel issues, caused by massive turnover the last few years.
While a better hire would've made me feel better about our long term prognosis, I don't think virtually any other coach would have us in a better position.

You don’t think a better coach would’ve beaten Troy and been competitive with a very average Mississippi State?

I'm not talking about Saban. I mean a coach we could've hired.

A competent head coach would beat Troy and not be embarrassed by MSU with our talent. We have a head coach with zero career success and it continues to show

We've almost lost to Troy twice before.
I hated the Orgeron hire. And a different coach would no doubt be better for the long haul, but I'm not certain a different coach would be doing much better RIGHT NOW.

You are either lying to yourself or you are an idiot.

Why?
I think the program was in worse shape than many realized.
(This is not a pro- or anti- Orgeron thread)

Coaches don't play the game. Players do.
Coaches don't fumble, throw int's, miss FG's, or miss easy completions. Players do.
How's Jimbo and Hermie doing? Who else was there? You want O gone now - who you bringing in?

So you think we are loaded with talent?
In what positions?
Where is it?

So, you don't think a coach who has proven success would be doing better than Ed Orgeron managing this team and actually getting the most out of the talent on this roster? Wow...
The offense was what everyone wanted to improve the most and it actually got worse. Any other coach would have hired a coordinator that actually fit what they wanted to do instead of fighting with him at practice about what the offense should look like.

Don't tell me. You're a psychic?

While I agree, much of the media ignored the glaring depth issues on the offensive line. And, nobody knew we'd have the AA injuries (with Key and Guice) and then the lack of play or conditioning issues with Key.

Ok, Joe Alleva

Jimbo won a natty and is in a known rebuilding year
Hermie is tied for 1st in the Big 12

In recruiting? Impossible to know.
Herman has locked down Texas so it's likely to believe that he would have done that in Louisiana also. Plus he would have had a lot of Texas connections. I would say we would be doing better there, but impossible to know.
Jimbo would have also had recruiting locked down. He would have also had an offseason with Brennan, so who knows where we would be offensively.
Either way, the future would be brighter with these two guys IMO, but impossible to know for sure.

If it was in my power, I would fire Orgeron today.
But I think we need to have a realistic view of where our program is.
We have gaping holes in our talent at multiple positions, a shitty QB, the worst RB depth in 20 years and no WR playmakers.
It's a problem that can't be masked by just bitching about Orgeron.

This hire is so bad that it's turned me into the people I hated for over a decade. This guy was the best LSU could get after all of that time?
I mean, shite, was Sylvester Croom not available? He's got better SEC credentials than O. That's how shitty of a hire it is. At this point, I'll take anyone over this guy.
I have never believed "any coach could win with LSU's talent", but I do think that any competent coach fields a much better team week in and out.

Jimbo, bad, he should have beaten Miami and let it slip away. At least he has a track record to show what he is doing.
herman is doing fine, won the last two conference matchups. Team is playing well now and has a top recruiting class unlike us

So far, no one has thrown out any names.... but if I were Alleva, here's what I would have done.... and remember, he was ready to fire Miles in 2015.
First, I would always have a list of potential candidates ready. He's been an AD a long time. He knows people, coaches and agents.
Secondly, I would have pulled several members of the BOS together, the boosters and TAF. What's my top dollar budget for a new head coach??
Then I'm contacting agents and coaches....in no particular order--- Peterson, Gundy, Sweeney, Mullen, Shaw, Herman, Fisher....and I would have made them tell me "No".
Maybe he did that. Maybe his budget wouldn't allow him to go beyond $5 mill a year. That, we don't know.
But we can't forget that Coach O did a great job last year, with our team and the hand he was dealt.
Now, we must support Coach O and hope he can improve this season... and hope our recruiting class fills our needs.

I agree. But that's not the point of my post.
