Best time to get in the woods for an evening hunt?

I'm fairly new to deer hunting, so I don't know all of the "rules" when it comes to getting in and out the woods. I live 20ish minutes from some public land and work about 50ish minutes from the same ground. Typically get off work 4 each day.
Early on when we still have decent light until 7-715, is it foolish to even try and get in the woods if I can't get there until around 5. Figure by 520ish being set up in a stand to hunt.
Obviously this would be out of the question a month from now, because it will be dark by 5:30, 6 o'clock at the latest.

best time to get in the woods is any time and every time you can...

In the morning. Go all day when you can

I can't guarantee you'll kill one if you're in the woods from 5-7, but I can guarantee you won't kill one while you're at home on the couch from 5-7. Time spent in the woods is never wasted. You'll learn something each time and become a better hunter through practice. Just takes 5 seconds to change your life forever. To kill a deer, you've gotta be in the woods, to catch fish, you gotta be on the water. Just my $.02

Not at all. Hunt when you can. The more hours in the stand, the better your chance of seeing and killing a deer.
One of my hunting padnuhs regularly heads out to sit for a couple of hours here and there, sometimes in the middle of the day. And he sees and more mature deer than anyone else I hunt with because his butt is in the stand more than anyone else's.

It all depends on your access and can you get to your spot without pushing deer. If you have deer coming near your stand on a travel corridor 30 min before dark at 6:30, then yea I'd say its worth it if you can get there by 5:30.

I know where there are deer bedding down, and I can get between that and the food sources without bumping any. I have an area that the only bad wind for my entry would be a west wind (which is rare). Anything else is blowing my scent over a bayou or away from where the deer are.
Also a lot of hog sign, and I probably have a better shot at hogs in there than deer.

Exactly...how many times have you heard of hunters getting in the stand and killing a deer just a few minutes later. It hasn't happened to me yet, but it has to my brother and my son.
A couple years ago, I had walked my son to his stand and was headed to mine, and I hear a shot in less than 5 minutes. It was so quick, I thought his gun had gone off accidentally.

530 is fine, get in there and get settled. 80% of the time they are gonna move the last 30 minutes of light anyway

Hell, I've shot deer while walking TO the stand in the afternoon. I would go absolutely any time I got a chance.

Set up a camera where your deer are at, and check general movement patterns. I have used one of those isolunar phone apps with okay results.
I'll agree with everyone else, you aren't gonna shoot anything sitting on the couch

ehhh that can be iffy. If he goes in late and blows all the deer out a couple of times they might be less likely to frequent that area.

Been back and forth on this simply because I hunt public land.
Anyone have any experience/advive with cameras on public land? Always worries me because I'm afraid they will get stolen.

Scout for sign. Sometimes its more exciting to not know every animal that passed your stand location.
If I were going to put out a camera I would use a cheap $50 one because highly likely it gets taken as you already seem to know.

Including lunchtime, which is when I've seen the majority of my bucks the last couple of years.

after an all day rain and cold front pushes through.

One of the biggest deer I've seen shot at our camp (Massive 10 pt) was killed at 3:20 in the afternoon when the Temp. was 83 degrees. I dropped him at a stand and heard him shoot before I made it to my stand.
