So Stephen Paddock was a professional VIDEO POKER player?

And according to his brother, apparently did quite well and stayed fully financially afloat, while wagering upwards of $100k per day.
Isn't this all but a statistical impossibility? These are not really machines that one can statistically beat with any certain skill on a long term basis.

Doesn't sound very glamorous.

I was surprised at that too when a buddy relayed that info. Didn't even know it was a thing, really

Nor possible, if you understand these machines.

There are Texas hold 'em 'video poker machines' where you play against other players only. House takes a rake. Could be a terminology discrepancy.

In vegas, no telling. On the ones in Louisiana you can win 1k on one hand.

No, I knew they had higher limit machines than our $500 max payout Louisiana bar/truck stop ones.
I just wasn't aware of this live opponent option. I guess maybe that's what he was doing. Who the hell knows?

The guy reminds me of Marty in the HBO show Ozark.
This guy worked 3 years for Lockheed Martin as a Auditor
Then he takes up gambling as a living.
This guy was 100 percent laundering dirty money for someone. No one gambles for a living forever

Gameplay is much faster than a poker room. And he could get the comps playing in house v playing online. If I had to guess his brother misspoke. Bc I Doubt there are machines full of people playing '$100 a hand' limit poker in casinos.

Usually when you start making money over and over again the casino will black-ball you. Especially on a regular basis like he was supposedly doing. The Casino would be losing money if he was able to make a living doing it and the Casino is in business to make money.

I wonder if his income tax filings will become public.

quote:Yeah I just assumed the video poker was his hobby. Surely they’re not claiming he actually made a comfortable living gambling for years on end. Thats definitely not true.

It was what the wacky brother was saying.
Hopefully someone is keeping close tabs on that guy.

All gambling is a cancer.
When the casino (forget the name) opened up in Lake Charles I remember thinking this is going to be a disaster. Will destroy families. Didn't take long. One heart breaking story was particularly disturbing to me. An older married woman took to gambling and ran up huge gambling debt. I mean huge. Apparently she was very good at keeping her addiction secret from her husband (gambling addicts usually are). Her addiction got so bad, she even secured a loan against the equity in their home to pay for her habit. [how she was able to do that, I don't know?] Well she lost all of that $$. Bottom line they were about to lose their home. Well it seems the husband (unaware of anything) comes home one afternoon after she returned from the casino. Rather than tell him what was about to happen she shot her husband, killed him, then committed suicide.
There are other stories. Like the two lady friends who went gambling together. Friend No. 1 asked Friend No. 2 to hold her monthly house payment money to keep it safe. You know...keep her from spending it gambling. Well you guessed it. Friend No. 2 goes off and spends Friend No. 1 house payment money. Apparently there was a rash of businesses lost in the Lake Charles area shortly after the casino opened. Owners simply gambled away their business. A friend (businessman) who lives in the area told me the number was around 14 businesses. A staggering number.
I personally know of two acquaintances (spouses) who ran up huge gambling debts gambling. I mean huge.
All kinds of horror stories. Broken lives and broken families. All due to the addiction called gambling. Instead of purging society of this parasite, we just allow it to spread even more.
God help us all.

Unless there is quirk in the software that he knew about.

He was probably a card counter and just played video poker so as to not raise suspicions. Pretty common thing for card counters to do.

Sounds like a convenient laundering excuse.
So this guy was tech savvy enough to "work" on the internet every day but had no social media footprint? Riiiight.
EDIT: I interpreted video poker as online poker. If this is video poker machines then that screams even more collusion/laundering. He had to use rigged machines to get paid. Video machines are programmed so the house wins. You cant play it every day and make money legit.
