The Nine Sovereigns at Windsor for the funeral of King Edward VII, photographed on 20 May 1910.
quote:
In May 1910, European royalty gathered in London for the funeral of King Edward VII.
Among the mourners were nine reigning kings, who were photographed together in what very well may be the only photograph of nine reigning kings ever taken.
Of the nine sovereigns pictured, four would be deposed and one assassinated.
Within five years, Britain and Belgium would be at war with Germany and Bulgaria. Only five of the nine monarchies represented in the photo still exist today.
Standing, from left to right: King Haakon VII of Norway, Tsar Ferdinand of the Bulgarians, King Manuel II of Portugal and the Algarve, Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany and Prussia, King George I of the Hellenes and King Albert I of the Belgians.
Seated, from left to right: King Alfonso XIII of Spain, King George V of the United Kingdom and King Frederick VIII of Denmark.

This is amazing, very powerful shot. Not just from a historical point of view, but also photographically very strong, you can almost feel the tension.
The guy on the left looks like he’s not overly happy to be present, whereas the guys on the middle and right fully believe they’re in the right.

I've been to that spot, it is actually east of Sacramento a ways. Nice view even now.

Great stuff, y'all.
I was a wee tot in NYC when that Grand Central photo was taken.
I was raised in a mostly Japanese neighborhood in suburban San Francisco. A number of my friends' parents and/or grandparents were in the camps.

I remember watching the Essex sniper incident on live TV when I was a kid. We went to NOLA a year later, and I was literally scared to death to go. I think I was 11 at the time.

Good point, you also won't get the same photo without cigarette smoke.
