His stand up is funny. His show isn't
You are on the left side of this debate I suppose.

i thought george was the best thing on that show
The reason that show was brilliant was because of Jerry's stand up coupled with Jason Alexander's interpretation of Larry David and then brilliant casting of Elaine and Kramer. It was the perfect storm of comedic creativity.

After season two Seinfeld did little writing.
I never knew that. Clicked on your link and I guess after the show took off they decided writing was more work than executive producing or whatever.

I thought the other characters were funny on Seinfeld. But, for the longest time I thought the fact that he was a comedian was one of the jokes until someone told me that he was supposed to be a real comedian and I was shocked.
That is sort of the premise of the show. Jerry is the straight man in a world of mad men

He's very funny but that Netflix special wasn't his best stuff

If he weren't Jewish he wouldn't be successful?

Larry David > jerry Seinfeld

He may not have wrote the episodes but he was highly influential with ideas and all that. It’s not like he just showed up and acted.

Latest Netflix special. Didnt even crack a smile. Come at me
Everybody knows that Larry David deserved 99% of the credit for the success of Seinfeld. Jerry was very lucky to be along for the ride.

Guessing most of you weren't around in the early/mid 80's when Seinfeld and Leno were killing it on Carson and Letterman.

larry david on the other hand is a comedic geinus

How old are you? I didn't get into his type of humor until I hit 30.

It's very old fashioned humor
But that's why he was so unsuccesful - it was kid friendly humor...you watch Seinfeld and Saget on those Late night shows and they sound very similar.
And I understand he's on Carson and has to toe the line - but even after Seinfeld, his big stand up special was still about cereal and Superman.
The crazy subversive things that happened on Seinfeld had to have come from only Larry David's mind.

So he's not funny but still collecting multiple millions of dollars, as is the rest of the cast, from the show's syndication. Obviously, someone out there thought he was worth it. I look at Jerry as the conductor of the show, much like a musical conductor. He made all the other characters work as comedic team.

It was his style through and through, and it was pretty boring. I laughed at the Long Island at the beginning, but that was it. Didn't finish. The background stuff was kind of interesting.

If you've seen his act, you've seen this. I legit heard 2 rehashed jokes in it. Just boring.

As the staff (and David) have said. They drew from the lives of the staff and cast. While Larry was there, he put his own stories down as plots for George. Carol Leifer has said that they'd repeatedly ask her for bits from her daily life for Elaine's stories.

He was in the 90's but times have changed

He literally said this special was all of his first material he ever used in the '80s. He was curious to see if it held up. I'm sorry but Jerry is a genius.
