Deer and persimmons you picked

I found a wild persimmon tree around my house and I picked several persimmons to put out in Mississippi because I know deer love them. My question is do you think the deer will mess with them after I put my scent on them?

from personal experience, they will find and eat every one, you can't put out enough, they will make a habit of coming around to check for that sweet treat...

This post reminds me of my Dad (RIP) who was a jokester. I love persimmons, but did not know there were wild ones. One day we were driving down the highway and he yells, "Pull over! Pull over!" So I stop the car on the side of the road. He says, "See those little orange fruits? They are wild persimmons. Go get you a few of them."
I am really excited and run off into the woods and pick a few. Couldn't wait to get home to wash them, so I popped one into my mouth and started chewing. HOLY CRAP! My mouth and throat closed up and I started spitting and choking on the side of the road. Look over into the car and my Dad is laughing his arse off. Sumbitch.

classic. Getting tricked into eating an unripe persimmon should be rite of passage for all kids.

Agreed. I make adults eat them too.
Additionally, if you cover them in chocolate and display at a party, 10/10 adults will take a bite...I hear...

I just got my kids the other day with this one
I love them when they are ripe but it almost isn't worth the risk, feels like a mouth full of cotton, at least that is the way I explain it.

You should get a few seeds from them, and try to plant in Miss., or in pots and move them to Miss when they get going.

I've done this with a few apples that were about to go bad, and the deer didnt care a bit. They ate them up.
We planted about 50 persimmon trees a couple of years ago and they should be starting to produce soon. Can't wait to see how the deer come to them.

Deer where I hunt don't eat the persimmons until after the first frost

Me and my kids filled up a couple five gallon buckets of acorns from a white oak in my yard. The deer devoured them.

Nope. I used to do that when I bow hunted. They don't care-love them persimmons as well as coons, fox, possums, etc.

They are tart as all hell when unripe, but might be the sweetest fruit when ripe.

I used to pick them and put them in the freezer until I needed them and they ate every last one.

If you pissed on them after putting them out they would still eat them

I thought about trying to plant a few actually. I only picked up about 15 or so of them, but I figured I'd throw them out when I go get on the stand Saturday morning.
