Ah and here we are. They're more successful so they should pay more because that's "fair". According to you. Because you know what's best.

They are not "making money off of" people. They are engaging in exchange with others. You seem to think that in a transaction, the person who gets the money makes off with the better deal than the person who gets the good.

You drive on the same road to get to work that an investor does.

Oh...well then my argument is completely defeated.

I never said that. It's context, not validation or invalidation.

However, it is an important distinction. The Top 25% of earners received 67.38% of the AGI.

no they don't. that's something idiots say because they think everybody paying into a system that's rigged for the big guy makes it fair.

Only a moron believes that every single person who benefits from a government should help fund that government. Now , obviously those with more money should pay more. But it's frightening to me that idiots like you believe that a system where those who use the most in government services pay NOTHING and the top 20% of earners fund most of everything can last for long.

Leave it to a liberal to slang derogatory terms for people much less fortunate as them as an insult. Speaks volumes.

why are you liberals so ashamed to admit to being liberal? Should tell you something.

...

That is an interesting tactic. A fairly petty one, and reductive, but interesting.

Do you have proof of my being a liberal, other than you hoping I am one? Genuinely curious.

Perhaps, if that was the sole indicator of all things. It isn't - our economy and compensation methods are much more complex than that.

Those numbers do not include, for example, sales taxes. Everyone pays sales taxes to some extent - but a wealthy person who buys gifts for friends, decorates their home, etc will end up giving the government much more money than a wealthier person who sits on their money, living simple lives. Neither is "wrong" - but one of those individuals is giving the government a significantly larger amount of money through other means than a standard income tax.

If you own a lot of real estate, you'll pay a lot in property taxes. Keep a simple home, even with lots of money, and you won't.

We like to try and whittle these debates down to single bullet points because we are conditioned to see single targets to aim for. The truth is that we're not in a 1v1 dogfight; our tax code is the financial equivalent of trying to navigate a bomber over Berlin in 1943. It's insanely complex and there's a hundred things working both for and against you, and the whole time you're just hoping to drop off that package and get the hell out of dodge.
