Alabama election: Why do democrats not "adjust" their chosen candidates based on region?

Roy Moore, who will win tomorrow in Bama, is a total charlatan idiot nutjob. But the democrats for some reason chose to run a very liberal guy named doug jones, who is completely pro-choice, pro-transgender, etc.
Yea, he is pure, but in order to win races you need to run people who are more in tune with the median voter in the state rather than the national party.
This could be a winnable senate race for the dems but their candidate is seen as unelectable by a large % of alabama voters.

Nope.
A Democrat won't win a statewide election in Alabama for at least 20 years.

Their entire fricking party is nutjobs.
They have had an array of liars trying to pass themselves off as "moderate" in special elections, hasn't worked.
Moore will vote for everything I am in favor of, why do I care if someone thinks he is a "nutjob"?

If you are not an absolutely pure progressive, you are a Nazi.
They can't run anyone else.

Alabama is not Massachusetts. Trust me, Hail, a Democrat won't win here unless the GOP candidate is caught doing something heinously criminal.

Honestly though, the current state of the Republican Party allows for more leeway in certain areas of political ideology.
The Democratic Party currently does not, or at least the room to move appears much smaller.

Stick to Yankee politics, you clearly don't have a clue about the South.

I was more bullish on Jones' chances vs Moore until I visited last weekend.
Did not expect to see Roy Moore signs in Homewood.

You'll only see them (Strange) in Mountain Brook - he's a resident and a (or was) a frequent attendee of social gatherings.

There are not many well known democrats left in Alabama. Doug Jones is doing well for being so liberal but still won't be enough to beat Moore.
Moore has the intelligence of a door stop and the compassion of a cactus but no one gives a f?ck here. They are on autopilot. Any issue requiring a second tier of comprehension is lost here.
Republicans control everything and this state one of if not the biggest clusterfrick in the union. No denying that. State government has disfunction on almost every level. The education system is pure shite. Alfa Insurance makes sure of that and they pay for politicians to fire up Alabama with wedge issues. This is generational fuctardetry so this problem isn't going to get better anytime soon.
Education
Healthcare
Tech jobs in an increasingly automated economy.
This is the priority you need to set for yourself Alabama but keep on obsessing over the dumb shite. How's has that worked out for you?
Good night. I'm not replying to dumb shite so fire away your free shots but you know deep down it's true.

Yep. Look no further than Louisiana.

It would be great if we got a moderate or conservative Dem but the Democratic Party in Alabama is dumpsterfire. I don’t even know if there’s a legitimate structure to it outside of a few party bosses. I know a lot of people like that Democrats are in shambles here but IMO it isn’t a good thing for a state (or any municipality) to be dominated by one party the way Alabama is. It promotes apathy and extreme candidates that simply cater to a base.
That said, Artur Davis was a rising star and a Dem Congressman here in AL. He voted against Obamacare knowing it would help him when he ran for governor. Little did he know that the Alabama Democrats would hold that against him and they nominated a hayseed Agricultural Commissioner over him in the Primary. Davis would’ve put up a much better fight against Bentley but the Dems made good the enemy of great. So that kind of answers your question.

Luckily, our Senatorial choice will bear little impact on statewide policy. We have a much, much better slate of gubernatorial choices. I think Battle or Maddox would be good choices.

JBE is just actually as liberal as some northern progressives are as far as fiscal, tax and economic issues go but he never uttered a single word about that.
He just had something to sell to the bible thumpers that hated Vitter with Hookers ant that was hating abortion, being faithful to his wife unlike Vitter and follows the west point honor code.
And even then, JBE would not have won if two other republicans in Dardenne and Angelle didn't beat the shite out of Vitter for several months through relentless character assassination and Vitter ran at least a decent campaign that made sure JBE didn't go into the runoff quietly like he did.

California is like this, and it's more dangerous because CA is the most important state in many ways. One party rule threatens to send this state into hell, and that will harm americans far more than bama going to hell.

California and Alabama are pretty much the lockstep one party states like DPRK and Nazi Germany.
Posted on 9/25/17 at 10:54 pm to HailHailtoMichigan!
Looking at California on this side of the river I would say they have room to slide. They have GDP of 2.4 trillion while we are at 165billion.
Haven't seen any economic indicators that California is on a downward slide. They have actually done quite well.

One party rule promotes extremism. In Alabama, all you have to do is cater (or pander) to the primary voters and you’re guaranteed two terms. Then using the name recognition from that office, you can catapult yourself into the next. That’s exactly what Kay Ivey has done. Hell, Bentley basically won one race and he was set. He won the Primary because another candidate’s supporters were pissed off. He never had to break a sweat in a General Election. Think about that. He was a back bench state rep and he never had to earn the job. It’s no shock to see how he ended up. Twinkle Cavanaugh is doing this same thing right now. Just waddling from state office to state office knowing it will eventually land her in the Governor’s mansion or in a Senate seat.
To add to the point about Democrats sucking wind in Alabama, Barack Obama was the best thing ever for Alabama GOP. I imagine they secretly wished Obama could serve more than two terms. Every podunk candidate from dog catcher to Senator ran on the premise of “fighting Obama’s liberal agenda.” If you were a Democrat, Obama’s was immediately hung around your neck. If you had the courage to distance yourself from Obama, you’d get zero traction among the Alabama Democratic Party, which is primarily African American. So it’s a lose-lose for moderate Dems.

That was pretty frustrating. Every Republican did the same damn thing. You're running for mayor of a town of 500 people. The biggest problem you face is the loon that keeps pissing in the town fountain.
