Imagine if you pulled up to the drive thru window to get your cheeseburger meal and the lady giving you your meal started telling you about the horrendous injustices the government of the United States has perpetuated against black people. Or what if she screamed "Black lives matter!" as she passed you your food. Then imagine if you called corporate to complain and they said some bullshite like, "We encourage our employees to be able to express themselves as they see fit."

We realize that almost all Hollywood is in lock step with the left. Most of them are extremist, in fact. But they are smart enough to separate their political views from their profession. I know Tom Cruise and Matt Damon are liberals and I don't agree with 95% of their dumbass beliefs. I can live with this and still go see the Bourne movies because Matt Damon doesn't appear during the opening credits with some statement about how police are racist shitlords.

Leave your politics away from the workplace. That's pretty standard corporate behavior, especially when you're making seven figure salaries.

As long as the food is good and they didn't spit in it, I don't care what she screams.

True story.

A couple of days after Obama was elected I was in a fast food drive thru.

I pull up to get my food and there was a black girl at the window. She sees my pale face and breaks out singing At Last by Etta James.

I work in education and if you even allude to a political stance as a teacher or administrator you would lose that job in record time, hell you can't even post leanings on Facebook as a teacher or put a political sign on your yard.

But somehow it's okay to broadcast to millions of kids over television.

In fairness, a lot of drive thru workers probably are already sitting.

With my job, we can't even put stickers on our cars, signs in our yards, or talk politics on social media. Some of us do anyway, but if caught you have to deal with the consequences. Does this policy chap my arse some? Yes, but I like my job so I'm willing to play ball. It should be the same for the players.

To me there is a hierarchy:

-Government censorship of an individual's opinion- BOO, everyone thinks this is bad.

-Business's censorship of an individual's political opinion outside of work- BOO, this is bad. Censorship is not even the right word, but "firing or other retaliation because of" is too wordy.

-Business's censorship of a high profile employee's political opinion outside of work- Like a CEO or someone else frequently in the public eye. Hmm, I can kinda sorta understand this but if often seems to break against conservatives more than liberals.

-Business's censorship of an employee's political opinion during work- Most people would be OK with this.

-Business's censorship of a high profile employee's political opinion during work expressed through in a very divisive manner (like kneeling during the anthem)-seems like a no brainer.

The big countervailing force is how valuable that employee is. They might be justified in firing an employee, but may choose not to because they score 3 TD's a game (or is the only person who understands the accounting system).

Yep. I don't think the fast food workers opinion about social or political issues has any more weight than that of athletes.

Meh, this is why there are owners/stakeholders of companies to set policies like this. I imagine some of the owners will not push back against this.

The only recourse of the consumer (NFL fans) is to watch something else.

That kind of shite drives me crazy. I have been to more concerts where the artist wants to tell me their political views instead of sing their songs. I feel like saying shut the frick up. I don't go to watch debates for the candidates to sing me a song. I didn't go to your concert to hear your political opinions.
