is there a certain % that are tuning out due to the protests? Probably

I think the product being pretty meh has hurt the ratings more, which I think poor OL and QB play is the culprit there.

I would watch more if they just reduce the commercials and speed up the game. 3-1/2 hours is to long.

Can't wait to see the players and NFLPA throw a hissy fit next year when the salary cap comes in significantly lower than expected and teams have no cap space in free agency due to the lost revenue from ratings drop and boycotts.

FWIW, average game length was 3:18 this past weekend. None over 3:30. Not sure what else the NFL could do. It's already shorter than CFB.

Don't underestimate Goddel making it happen in a few weeks.

Plus the clock on brain damage started a few years ago.

I do think the constant political stuff leads to viewer exhaustion from some and anger from others. I find myself often in the exhaustion category. I really don't care for the president but I also really don't need to hear about how much other people disagree with him.

The whole playing a national anthem before sporting events is now backfiring for at least the nfl. A major purpose of that was to ingratiate itself with many fans by creating an affiliation between the sporting event and patriotism. To have people walking away with the impression that many of the athletes do not share the same sense of patriotism - and in fact may dispute the value of patriotic rituals is potentially very damaging to the popularity of the sport.

very fair point. I did notice a couple of times they had a 30 second commercial on the "in box" screen.

They need to do something to speed up the replay though. Forget which game (maybe sunday) had the elbow down. I saw it figured out the right call, took a deuce sat back down and they still were reviewing. It was overwhelming obvious.

For sure.

Like I said in another thread, i only watch because I'm a gambling addict and need something to bet on.

I think college football should start having like a Big Ten or ACC game every week on at 11am on Sunday. I'd watch that over the NFL in a heartbeat. Then I'd watch the NFL game if the week at 3:30.

I agree here. Sometimes they let it drag on for minutes.

I always yell at them to hurry up. Not sure if they hear me.

They would get the shite kicked out of them in the ratings. No reason for them to go up against the NFL on Sunday.

You'll be waiting for a while to see this happen. Most of the TV and media contracts are signed through the 2021 season, and media is where the NFL makes the bulk of its money.

It's one game, and they'd start before the NFL games come on.

I think they'd draw a little because of that.

They would draw a little but would lose the strong majority at noon. There's nothing to gain by challenging the NFL on Sunday.

True, but it would still get the shite kicked out of it in the ratings.

There isn't a single reason to compete with the NFL on Sunday. Good ratings on Saturday vs shite ratings on Sunday. It's a guaranteed ratings loss.

ETA: If you were the ACC or Big10 commissioner, what reasoning would you have to put a good matchup on at 11am on Sunday?
